What's on the menu today, RNYers?

Anny, isn't it funny how sensitive we are to the smell of sugar now? My husbeast doesn't believe me, but I can barely stand to set foot in a bakery at this point. I go once a week to get a cinnamon roll to bring to my father-in-law (he's in a dementia care unit) and it's awful...not because all the baked goods tempt me, but the smell makes me want to gag.

Veggies, for me are green beans, asparagus, tomatoes, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce and kale. Sometimes when I'm just craving them, I'll cook up some carrots, but I don't do that often because they're higher in carbs than I like. I have to make sure the cooked veggies are nice and tender, where before surgery I liked my veggies a bit more on the al dente side. Undercooked veg is very bad juju, I've discovered. My pouch gets very irritated with me if I eat veggies that aren't cooked enough.

Good to know about the chicken! I'll have to try it and see if it can go on my meals rotation. I need to find things I can eat and that my husband will like as well.

Have a wonderful trip! Hope you have some down time to have some fun. Sounds like you are all prepared and I have no doubt in my mind you will do just fine. Oh, the hair thing......Can hardly wait for that but everyone says it grows back. I would not look very good as a bald woman either.

I'm off today it is 60 degrees and sunny here. I'll take it! Plan on doing some walking. Had f/u with my surgeon today and was advanced to solid foods. Here is my menu for today, give or take how much of it I can eat.

Safe Travels!

Thanks, Kimberly!  I am sure there is fun to be had, especially the weekend I have free :)  I love Dublin and London so I am excited!  Your menu looks great - again, we have the same exact lunch!  I am so happy to see you onto real food, doing so well (yay down 30 lbs!) and enjoying the post-RNY life :)  Awesome all around :)

I tried the Shirataki noodles during my old weigh****chers days. The we kind fishy. So I see Pam used the dry them out in a hot skillet method? Tell me more about that? I heard soak them in cold water but they still seemed fishy to me. Any recommendations?

Yeah they smell like hell!  I always rinse them multiple times in cold water, then boil them for a minute, and then throw them in a pan with whatever sauce/protein I am using.  Like a 3-step process :)

Oh, ok. Will do. I would love to have some pasta-ish thing. They kind of remind me of Asian rice noodles.

You need to rinse, rinse, and then rinse them some more in a strainer in the sink, Kimberly. Then parboil them for one to two minutes. After that, drain them well, rinse them one more time and then throw them into a medium-high nonstick skillet. Stir them around until you can see they're not all shiny and wet anymore, then add your other ingredients. It helped with the texture; I remember the first time I tried them and found them somewhat slimy. This way, though, they don't come out like that at all.

Definitely trying this. Thanks for the advice. I never would have though of the skillet method. Slimy=not good.
