Happy New Year!

Jan 01, 2015

Well,  after a rough month of having my gallbladder surgery and then three weeks later having my blood pressure drop through the floor causing me to collapse and fall only to break two ribs, I can still say that I am eternally grateful for my weight loss surgery.  I lost an additional 25 lbs in the past month, but not probably the right way. As another year passes,  the weight stays off.  What's the secret?  I don't really know.  I still follow the original direction that the doctors gave of eating proteins first.  Also, trying to stay away from high calorie and fried foods.  Just never give up.  Good luck to anyone having the gastric bypass surgery.  Let me know if there is anything I can do for you!

10 years post op!

Dec 06, 2014

Hi all,

Been quite a long time since I have posted.  Realized that today was my 10 year anniversary of my gastric bypass surgery.  I am just recovering from gallbladder surgery,  but all in all I'm doing pretty well.  Weight has been pretty stable fot the past few years around 235. I am often asked if I would do it all over again.  Good question.........depends on the day I guess.  Please remember to anyone thinking to have weight loss surgery.  Know that losing the weight will not cure every problem and at times even new ones may arise.  Good luck with your new journey!

6 Years later....

Dec 07, 2010

Well, I just celebrated my 6 year anniversary of my gastric bypass surgery. What a journey!  I remember that day of surgery how scared I was. I weighed 465 pounds and shutter to think where I would be today if I wouldn't have gone through with it. I'm pretty sure I might not have even made it to today if I wouldn't have. Now, I'm maintaining a comfortable 220 pounds and have been there for about 3 years. I fluctuate about 5 pounds either way, but feel like I'm in control of my body for the first time in my life. My advice to everyone who is new to this is to not give up on yourself. Overeating is a disease. But, you have a chance to take control of this and to "right the ship". It isn't going to be easy. Usually things that are worthwhile aren't. But, you will never regret doing so. The only issues I still have is that I still have a dumping issue. It isn't severe but my body still lets me know, with gusto!, that I've eaten too much. I feel I've been blessed by having that. I definitely can eat more than I could in my first year post op, but it is still very reserved in comparison to how much I ate in my preop days. Instead of 2 large pizzas, I eat maybe 1 or 2 slices. Instead of a 12 pack of mountain dew, I might have a diet cola or water. It's all in the mind. You have to just change what your definition of "normal" is. I will try and be more diligent with posting updates. Thank you to all over the years that have been so supportive. Tom
