Wow, it has been a while

May 24, 2010

So I had surgery on February 12, 2010.  Surgery was tough for me.  I was in the hospital for 5 days, with a couple small complications but then I was able to come home.  Pain, OMG, the pain it was horrible......about a week later 2 of my incisions (the big one and the drain hole) got infected so I was back in the ER for that.  I was also pumped full of fluids because apparently I was dehydrated too.  eeek.  So fast forward to now.  I am 3+ months out, and I am doing wonderfully.  I can fit into chairs that were super tight before.  At the movie theatre I can put BOTH arm rests down and still be very comfortable.  I can climb a flight of stairs and still breathe when I reach the top.  I went from wearing a size 30 pants and size 4x shirt to a size 24(getting a lil big) pants and 2x shirt(have 1~1x that fits too).  There have been so many changes in so short of time that have been great.  I often find myself wanting more faster, but after I type all this out I just now realized that I have come so far and really I should be greatful.

The changes havent all been easy.  It is hard to be treated different by people that you know, and even people that you don't.  I FEEL like the same
girl I was before surgery.  But most people treat me so differently now.  It really pisses me off, really.

So eating, I am doing well in the eating department I think.  The first 2 months were rough.  I would throw up everything, but the third month was way better.  I can now pretty much eat anything I have tried so far.  Still haven't tempted fate with sugar, and I don't plan on it.  I am lactose intollerant so I have to have LF milk with my protein powder.  I drink one every morning for breakfast.

So here are my stats.....
Starting the whole process I was 369 pounds
369

At surgery I was 354 - sorry so pics, I was depressed and didn't take a pic :(

Liquid Diet Starts Today

Jan 29, 2010

I am having surgery on February 12, 2010 at 7:30am.  So today I start my liquid diet.  So far today it hasn't been too bad, but we are only half way through it :)  I am going into this with an open mind and I know what the goal of this diet it, so I think I will have no trouble sticking to it.  If I could only stop thinking about food it would be a lot easier though.

A few wrenches in my plan, but still moving ahead.

Jan 11, 2010

So the week I was to have a consult with Dr. Saber he left the practice and moved to Florida.   So I had to start my search for a new Dr. and wait for another seminar and another consult.  I have finished both, and Dr. Webber out of Detroit  is going to be my surgeon as long as I get the approval from the psychiatrist and the insurance.

I see the psychiatrist for the second time on thursday (1-14-10).  I am hoping he will approve me.  Then all that is left is the insurance approval.  So my fingers, toes, everything crossable is crossed that I will have a date soon.

~September 8, 2009~ Dr. Saber Seminar

Sep 09, 2009

I attended Dr. Sabers Seminar last night in Battle Creek.  It was very informative and Dr. Saber was very strait forward and kind.  I am happy with my choice of a surgeon.  He was very thourough in explaining everything and I learned things that I didnt know, even though I have extensively researched bariatric surgery.  He was very patient and took the time to answer any questions that anyone had.  He wasn't rushed and I liked that a lot.  Since I have chosen him for my surgery it makes me feel good that he is kind, compassionate and took his time and made sure we were well away of risks and the things WE needed to do to be successful with this surgery.

I have my consult on October 30th.  I can't wait!!  In the meantime I will try to get all my tests taken and all the paperwork filled out so when I see him, everything that can be accomplished on my end will be accomplished.  It is my hope that when I see him we can then contact the insurance for approval and get the ball rolling!
