10 MONTHS OUT, DOWN 125 LBS. SINCE SURG., 146 LBS. TOTAL!!!

Dec 01, 2008

So I haven't updated in awhile, life has been really busy.  I am doing so much more now than I was this time last year that it is crazy.  I started this journey a year ago, and I have to say that I am VERY pleased w/ the results.

I do have to have an EGD done in January to check for a possible ulcer but other than that I am doing GREAT.  I got the stomach flu the day that I went to see Dr. Smith for my 9 month checkup, (even though I was 9.5 months out @ the time of the appointment) and that morning before going to the appt. I had some odd stomach pains.  I didn't know that I was getting sick, so I told Dr. Smith about it.  He said that ulcers were pretty common for people around 10-12 months out from surgery, so we better do the EGD to check.  I haven't had any more of those pains since I was sick, so I'm thinking that I don't have an ulcer, knock on wood =)

I hope that all of my friends out there are doing well, and I'll try to update next month!  Much love to all!!!

8 MONTHS OUT, DOWN 111 LBS. SINCE SURG., 132 LBS. TOTAL

Sep 30, 2008

I had my monthly appt. w/ my primary care physician today, and I have lost 111 lbs. since surgery, and 132 total lbs. total since I began this journey back in november of 2007.  132 lbs. gone in less than a year.  Isn't that crazy?  I still look @ pictures of me @ my highest weight, and I cannot believe that was me.  Not even a year ago!!!  I've went from a size 3x or 30/32 to a medium/large on top, and a size 15 on bottom (due to all of my saggy skin on my stomach, lol).  I only have 27 lbs. to go to meet my original goal weight of 160 lbs.  Unofficially, I have changed my goal weight to 150 lbs.  I keep it unofficial and just something in my head just in case my body settles @ more than that =)

I am totally healthy, still getting all of my protein and taking my vitamins every day.  I still have not even thrown up once since surgery.  I have been so very blessed, and I thank God every day for giving me my life back.  I need to do another before and after but my husband has to do it for me.  I will try to get one posted soon.  I hope that all of my friends out there r well.  Much love to all...Katie

7 MONTHS OUT, DOWN 102 LBS. SINCE SURG., 123 LBS. TOTAL

Aug 31, 2008

I'm a couple of days late on my update, I was gonna try to start making my update on the 30th of every month but I guess I'll just shoot for that next month.  Things r going pretty good.  I saw my surgeon on the 28th of August, and all of my labs looked really good.  I'm not feeling too hot, though.  Even though my B12 was good, I'm going to start getting a shot every 2 weeks now instead of just once a month.  I have been feeling great for the first couple of weeks after my shot, then towards the middle of the month, I'm zapped of all energy, and I have to MAKE myself get to the Life Center to workout.  I just had my B12 shot less than a week ago but I think I'm coming down w/ the flu or something.

My kids don't get sick very often, they actually haven't been sick since I had surgery 7 months ago but school started a couple of weeks ago, my youngest started his first year of preschool, and he is already sick.  I think I'm catching his bug.

I'm still glad that I had this surgery, and I still feel very blessed to have had no complications.  I hope that all of my friends out there r doing well...Much Love...Katie

6 MONTHS OUT, DOWN 91 LBS. SINCE SURG., 112 TOTAL

Jul 31, 2008

So I was 6 months out from surgery yesterday, and I'm down 91 lbs. since surgery on January 30th of this year, and 112 lbs. down since November of 2007.   I had my monthly appt. w/ my PCP for my B-12 shot today, and I've lost 10 lbs. since my last appt.  I had been losing 12-13 lbs. a month so that was a little disappointing but my doctor reminded me that I am working out and building muscle.  I know that the weight loss is going to slow down but sometimes it can be frustrating when I'm working my butt off @ the gym and following a healthy diet.  I do treat myself sometimes to things that I shouldn't have but not too often.  I try to do that so that I don't feel the need to do it all of the time.

I'm feeling really good most of the time, although I do have some days that get kinda rough when it gets close to time for my B-12 shot.  I'm getting all of my protein and taking my vitamins like I should, so I'm starting to think I might need that B-12 shot more than once a month.  I see my surgeon @ the end of August and I'll be getting the crapload of labwork done.  My 4 month labwork came back great.  Everything was normal except for my good cholesterol so hopefully I'll just be needing the B-12 twice a month or so.

This summer has been so wonderful for me.  I've been able to do so much more w/ my kids, and I've had so much energy that it's crazy.  Everyone around me has been so supportive.  I haven't had any problems w/ any negativity from anyone.  I think that everyone sees how hard I'm working and they respect that.  I continue to feel that this surgery is the BEST thing that I could have ever done for myself and my family.  I hope all my friends out there r doing well, and I'll update @ 7 months.  Much love to all...Katie

5 Months Out, Down 84 lbs. since surg., 105 lb. total!!!!

Jul 02, 2008

So I'm 5 months out from surgery as of 3 days ago, and I became a member of the Century Club 5 lbs. ago!!!  Life is so good:)  I feel wonderful, like a whole new woman, and I'm 15 lbs. away from my next mini-goal which is to weigh less than 200 lbs.  I haven't weighed less than 200 lbs. since middle school so I will most likely be having a BIG party when that happens.

I've got so much more confidence in myself and my ability to meet my goal weight now.  I actually think that the closer I get to my goal weight of 160 lbs., the more I'm thinking of changing my goal weight to 150 lbs.  We will see.  Just wanted to give a quick update.  I hope that everyone is well!!!  I added a current picture of me and one  w/ my boys on July 11, 2008.  I just figured out how to do this:)

4 MONTHS OUT, 229 LBS., DOWN 69 LBS. SINCE SURG., 90 LBS. SINCE

May 28, 2008

So here I am again, actually updating in a timely manner, lol!  The first thing that I want to say is that I feel like a whole new woman!  4 short months ago, I embarked on this beautiful journey, and I thank God that I did.  Sure, I lost 21 lbs. before surgery and tried to prepare myself the best that I could but the journey didn't really start until I had my surgery on January 30th, 2008.

I went from barely being able to go upstairs to my bedroom to walking @ least a mile every day.  I try to get to the gym @ least 2-3 times a week but that can be hard when u have 2 kids who think they have to be stuck up ur butt 24/7, lol.  If I can't get to the gym, I try to walk a mile here around my neighborhood.  Regardless, I have so much energy now that it is CRAZY!

I'm fitting into mostly 18-20's but I can wear some 16's.  I haven't seen these sizes in 10 years.  I'm starting to feel like the fun-loving, outgoing person that I used to be because I feel sooooo much better.  I apologize for the randomness of my blogs, I can't seem to get exactly how I'm feeling out in words but I'm sure that most of u who have embarked on this journey know what I mean, or at least hopefully u do, lol!!!  Until next time...Much love to all...Katie

3 MONTHS OUT, DOWN 57 LBS. SINCE SURGERY, 78 LBS. SINCE NOVEMBE

Apr 29, 2008

So here I am updating finally, I'm so horrible @ this.  Life has been really busy lately, and I usually just update my weight on here, and I never take the time to update my blog.

I'm doing great, I feel like a different person.  I'm realizing that this surgery is the best thing that I could have ever done for myself.  I'm not losing weight as fast as I did the first 2 months, and I get depressed about that sometimes but @ least the weight is still coming off.

I still haven't had any complications, and I still haven't thrown up even once since I had the surgery.  I feel so very blessed because I know that throwing up is quite common after this surgery, and I was very afraid of having that problem but like I said, I have been blessed in so many ways.  Anyone out there thinking of having this surgery who reads this, my words to u are, "GO FOR IT, HAVE THIS SURGERY, IT WILL TOTALLY CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOR THE BETTER!!!"

I hope that all of my friends out there r doing well, and I am so glad that u all have had this amazing surgery.  Much love to all...Katie

5 WEEKS OUT FROM SURGERY, DOWN 32 LBS. SINCE SURG., 53 TOTAL!!!

Mar 06, 2008

It has been forever since I've updated.  Sorry to all of my friends out there.  Yesterday I was 5 weeks out from surgery, so I decided to take some pics today.  I posted them in my After Surgery Album.  After going a full week w/o losing even 1 pound, I got on the scales this morning, and I had lost 3 more lbs. finally.  I'm down 32 lbs. since sugery and 53 lbs. since I started this process in November.  I'm really starting to see and feel the difference but I am still exhausted all of the time.  I don't have alot of stamina to do much but I've decided that I have to push myself.  I went to the gym on Tuesday, and I almost passed out from doing 15 minutes on the treadmill on a very low setting.  I just have to work myself up I guess.  I also need to get another B12 shot.

I've been able to eat soft/pureed foods for a week now but I don't really have much of an appetite.  I'm supposed to be having 3 meals a day and 2 snacks but there is no way that I can do that.  Even if I didn't need to supplement my protein w/ shakes, I still wouldn't be able to eat that many times a day.  I haven't had any problems, though.  Still have not thrown up or anything, and I've had baked fish, canned chicken, and some blended up roast.  I'm trying to only eat food that has protein in it.  I really can't complain because I've had no complications, I'm just tired all of the time, and I have NO energy.

Even if I don't update my blog, I'm trying to keep my BMI and my weight updated on here.  I hope that everyone out there is doing well, and I'll try to update soon...Much Love To All...Katie

10 days out from surgery--14 lbs. down since surgery, 34 total

Feb 09, 2008

Hey everybody, it's taken awhile for me to get on here and feel like giving a big update w/ any kind of real details.  I tend to procrastinate sometimes, so please forgive me, lol.

My surgery went wonderful, no complications, and I've had NO problems whatsoever w/ my pouch.  I've not thrown up @ all since the surgery.  I'm amazed @ how comfortable I've grown to be w/ my pouch already.  That kind of scares me too.

I'm doing great on my phase 2 diet but I'm concentrating heavily on my protein so I'm usually doing @ least two 8 oz. protein shakes a day.  Cottage cheese is what is keeping me from having to drink a 3rd shake each day to meet my protein goal.  I've been able to meet my protein and fluid intake goals since my 5th day out.  It is such a job though.  I enjoy chicken broth the most of anything I'm allowed to have right now.  I season it w/ Mrs. Dash and sometimes I'll add a cap of Chicken Broth Protein by Unjury to help eliminate a shake in the evening.  I don't like to do it though because I can taste that protein, and I really do NOT enjoy that.

I was sooo glad to get my drain tube out yesterday.  That's the sorest part of my body.  I was finally able to take a shower w/o having someone stand outside the shower holding the drain tube, lol.

Dr. Smith was wonderful during my surgery, great w/ my family, and all full of encouragement when I saw him yesterday to remove my drain tube.  I don't see him again until May.  Hopefully he has a hard time recognizing me, lol.

I need to get some of my surveys done now that my surgery is over.  I'm gonna try to get that done soon.  Hope everyone out there is doing well.  Much love to all...Katie
