16 pounds away from ONEderland!

Apr 15, 2015

Although it certainly is coming off slower these days, it is still coming off! My next major milestone is 199 (ONEderland).  After that I will be rounding the final corner of this marathon and will be 35 pounds from my goal.  Then I'm on to MAINTENANCE! WooHoo - Thank you SLEEVE!

Current Weight: 222.2 (Happiness...)

Feb 23, 2015

Just wanted to say how happy I am that I decided to have this surgery.  I'm only about half way to my goal (at just over 4 months), but I am so grateful to be where I am at today! My life has been changed and I've met a lot of wonderful people along this journey.

120 days post op (VSG)

Feb 10, 2015

So here I am updating my OH page.  I am VERY happy with my weight loss thus far.  I believe I am in a stall now and I'm not highly concerned - I mean I hope this isn't the end of my weight loss - but even if it were I am SO much better off than I was 4 months ago before surgery.  I feel better and of course I look better :-) I am going to tighten the reigns on my intake and get back to the basics and see how that helps.  Good Luck to everyone else out there on the losers bench and trying to get to the losers bench! :-)

4 Weeks Post Op (Check Up with Surgeon)

Nov 10, 2014

I couldn't be happier! I had my check-up today and my surgeon said I am doing real well! My incisions look great, in fact you can hardly see them! (My surgeon did VSG with the SPIDER system- AMAZING! Less incisions, easier healing, etc.) I'm finally starting to see some of my progress - although I must say I am surprised, no one has said anything to me about my weight loss - so maybe its not that apparent? I don't know. I didn't tell many people what I was going through and I have been on rollercoaster diets over the last um-teen years, so likely a lot of them if they are noticing are thinking its just another diet and I am going to gain it back - well, not me- thanks to my new tool - my sleeve! Hope everyone is having a fabulous Monday!

24 days Post-Op

Nov 06, 2014

Life is getting better! Whew! there was a little while there I wasn't feeling so great. I find that I am not quite where I would like to be with exercise, I haven't gotten back into the gym yet, but that's okay.  I like the treadmill and before surgery I was walking about 30-45 minutes 2-3 times a week. I thought that I would be right back in there, but to tell you the truth by the time I get home from work, deal with the teenagers (get them to practice, etc.) I am pooped.  That's okay because I feel each day I am getting just a little better!

Saw my NUT today.. Great Visit.

Oct 28, 2014

Okay VSG'ers, so like many before me I have been worried about not losing enough weight. (I'm 2 weeks post-op).  Asking myself all sorts of crazy questions and thinking somehow, I will be the only one that surgery doesn't work for.  Well, my NUT told me today the only thing I am doing wrong - or should do different is to STAY OFF THE SCALE EVERY DAY! I don't know what it is about having surgery but its almost an addiction to checking the scale every day.  My NUT said limit myself to once per week.  When she put my numbers into perspective, I could see how good they really are but when you are watching the scale every day and some days the number doesn't move, it can be de-motivating and feel like a set-back.  So here are my glorious numbers:

2 Weeks Post OP (and sick)

Oct 27, 2014

Today is two weeks since my surgery, but I woke up yesterday with a nasty sinus infection and some sort of nasty viral infection. I had a 100.7 fever this morning when I went to my PCP :-( Normally, I would have just taken over the counter meds but so soon after surgery I didn't want to take any chances.  I have a question for all you veteran VSG'ers: I don't feel like I am losing weight like I thought I would. I had surgery 2 weeks ago and I have only lost 9 lb.'s, does that seem on the slow side? Any advice for a newbie would be appreciated!

My first post... (my new life after VSG)

Oct 18, 2014

As many others have posted here I have been lurking on the site for quite awhile now, but I finally decided today to post.  I've thought about weight loss surgery over the years but it I mostly thought it was what you did when you gave up on trying to lose weight 'the normal way'.  Wow, was I wrong with that line of thinking, I mean, is there a 'normal way' to lose weight? Really? I've been on the weight loss roller coaster my entire life and about 3 months ago, I realized that I wanted to change my life.  My brother mentioned the surgery to me, he thought we should do it together. Truth is, he really doesn't need surgery, but as I began to research, I realized that I was so wrong about all my thoughts about weight loss surgery.

I searched online, I went to seminars and then I finally met with a weight loss coordinator that offered me an all inclusive package for my journey.  I received lots of helpful information and probably watched every darn youtube video I could find. I made a decision to have weight loss surgery.  I met with the surgeon, did your usual insurance required pre-authorization stuff, and like many others here, I waited, I waited to get an answer from my insurance company and I wondered if they said no, how would I deal with that? How after fixating so much time and intense research on this change in my life?

Well, fortunately I didn't have to deal with not getting approval because my insurance company said 'YES'! So here I am, I had my surgery on OCTOBER 13, 2014! I am now 5 days post op and I realize that although I was very well read and well informed, nothing or no one could truly prepare me for the past 5 days. I haven't had any terrible experiences or crazy nausea, it's just not something you can be 100% prepared for.  You see when you are researching, and you read everyone else's complications, issues, etc., you think you can 'cheat' those problems. You think that somehow you can be smarter than all of the people you've read about, you think you can avoid any of these issues by just 'using what you have learned'! Ha! well that was funny! Now, I can say I am glad I did all of the research that I did, so that when I did have certain feelings or certain situations through this recovery, I remember that its normal and others have dealt with the same issues. The funny thing is though, that I thought, I could out smart everyone and not have any issues. hahahahha..
