I am a 39 year old female who has been fighting obesity most of my life. I am one week post -op after having the Sleeve gastrectomy on 10/20/10. I also had the lap Band in 2009, but it had to be removed. I am married to a wonderful man, with two beautiful daughters. I was always chubby as a child, thinned out momentarily in my early teens, then proceeded to start gaining again. I weighed 264 lbs. when I became pregnant with my first child in 1990, then 5 years later I was 400 lbs. when I became pregnant with my secon child. Approximately 7 years ago I reached my highest weight ever at 470 lbs. I have always worked on my feet so it got harder & harder the more weight I gained. It was seven years ago that I decided to stop letting food ruin my life. I dieted on my own struggling between atkins & weightwatchers. I also started moving my body. in about a year I lost 150 lbs. I felt renergized for sometime, but then it fizzled out & I started yo-yo-ing. I got down to 339 lbs. then I would gain 10 & lose 10. Realizing that I needed more help I pursued what I thought was the safest procedure- the lap-band. I had the lap-band put on in Philadelphia by Dr. Meihlan. He did a great job, everything went perfect, I lost 30 lbs. from pre-op to 2 months post-op. Unfortunately I developed a hernia around the port site which happened suddenly then strangulated. I had to be taken to the ER. The lap- band & 5 inches of bowel had to be removed. A little less than a year later I am one week post-op from the sleeve gastrectomy. I am greatful to God that my procedure went smoothly, I was discharged in 2 days, and I am doing great so far. Since my last hernia, I am now very cautious with what I lift. I protect my abdomen. On my surgery day I weighed 312 lbs. Today I weigh 302 lbs. In one week I have lost 10 lbs. I am very optimistic that this will be the procdure that will help me do what I could not do on my own. Permanently stop overeating.
