Goal 1:  Have my VSG next month.

Goal 2:  Lose 80 pounds (with ultimate goal of 100)

Goal 3:  Run at least a 5k by Fall.

LOL Shell.... not to bump the thread up but to answer your question :D :  I have the appt. with my regular doc tomorrow to clear me for surgery, seminar tomorrow, nutritional seminar next Monday, can schedule appt. with the surgeon anytime after tomorrow, and schedule surgery anytime after that!  Because of my partner at work being gone the 2nd week of February, I'll probably look at getting it done the 3rd week, just in case I have to be off longer than I think. ;)

Topic: RE: What kind of scale do you use?
I'd like to get a new scale (bathroom, not food--although I suppose I'll be needing one of those too, huh?).  I've got the old Health-0-Meter dial-type that only goes up to 300 lbs (my son is over that and trying to lose), but I'm not sure it's real accurate anymore.

I want one with a digital readout that goes over 300 lbs.... do you like what you have, and what kind is it?  Thanks! :)

Topic: RE: Deciding on Weight Goal
I have kept a pair of jeans that i wore until I was almost 5 months pregnant... that's over 21 years ago.  They're marked size 12, which probably equates to about an 8 in today's crazy sizing.... they're pleated, peg-legged, and stonewashed and I'll never wear them in public again but I've kept them all these years by God for "some day" .... well, now I actually believe that Some Day is gonna get here!!

Numbers-wise, I'm shooting for 160.  That's about where I was when I graduated high school, and it's at the very top of the healthy weight range for my height and age.  Plus that'll be just about a hundred pound loss, in the end. :)

Right!!

Hilarious to read but a serious topic... good news is you are right on top of what's going on in your head, and are recognizing and dealing with the warning signs as they happen.  We can all only hope to be as strong!

And yeah--think I'd have probably told the lady exactly what the deal was, made sure she understood how insensitive and inappropriate her remarks were, then gone to the car and cried LOL.

TOTALLY normal..... you're detoxing. :)  Getting off the coffee will do that to you because of caffeine withdrawal, but getting off the sugar will too.  People who do Atkins often have the same thing happen the first few days.  It'll pass and in a couple of days you'll feel a surge of energy and feel great!  Good luck!

Topic: RE: Informing the work crew....
Where I work, there are only 12 employees, we're in a relatively small space, and we're all pretty close, like a second family. A couple of people know that I'm pursuing this surgery, everyone else will know something's up when I put in for the time off.

I'm the only person in this clinic who's ever dealt with an obesity problem, and while I expect everyone to be supportive towards me personally, and I know they won't talk badly about me behind my back, I'm sure there will be questions among them and the feeling that if only I'd eat less and exercise more, I wouldn't have to have my innards all cut up. They've all seen me start and fail diets over and over again.

I'm thinking of writing up a comprehensive letter/statement telling them all about what exactly I'm doing and all the many reasons why, and why I feel it's really my only hope at this point, and how I'll need their understanding and support when I get back, and leaving it on their desks on the evening of my last workday before the surgery. That way I don't have to go through the hassle of talking about it incessantly, explaining it and justifying it to each of them individually, and then when I come back hopefully they'll "get it" and really understand the whats and whys.

I think it's a good idea for my situation... has anyone ever done anything like that, and if so how did it work out for you? Can anyone think of a reason why it would not be a good idea? Thanks!

I'll drink Diet Coke if I can't get my Diet Rite, but I love -- LOVE -- my Diet Rite cola.  Usually I only have a big glass with dinner, sometimes half a refill after, but still.... I just love the taste and the feel of it and I can't imagine not missing it afterwards.  I'll stay away from it for sure, I just hope I don't start craving it after a few months!

I used to love the lemon-lime, but don't know if they even still make that.  I love the flavored teas also!  Last I looked though, they were still using aspartame and I try to avoid that.  Is there anything similar that's made with Splenda that anyone knows of?

Whichever way you go, whether it's ultimately staying with Dr. Weiss or going elsewhere, you need to make him aware of what you've been through with his staff.  If it were me, I'd print out exactly what you've written here and hand it directly to him face-to-face...not through the mail, and not through the office, because chances are he'll never see it that way.  I'd also tell him that as much as you like and respect him and his abilities, you'd hesitate to refer anyone else to him because of the treatment you've been subjected to by his staff.

I think after it's all over with, you'll be so glad you did it!  I used to choke up when I had to read aloud in school... one thing I discovered in college (where ORAL communication -- aka Speech Class -- was a requirement) is that even if you're scared to death, if you PRETEND to be relaxed and confident, then pretty soon you actually WILL be.  Go for it, and have fun!!
