I know I did this for myself but...

For me it wasn't until 75 lbs that people regularly started saying anything...and I "only" had 100 to lose. I think people are just nervous about making comments on weight in general (even if it's positive).

The most common response I got from people? They asked me if I'd gotten taller.

At 53 years old, not a lot of people get taller

Once again, my laptop screen and keyboard need to be cleaned--spit coffee all over it. Love it.

I'm finding that every time I see Grim had posted, I run to that thread. He's either incredibly helpful, or incredibly funny, or both at the same time.

Grim is hilarious no matter what but I have this thing that goes through my mind... I can imagine him standing there and saying this stuff all deadpan. It totally cracks me up!!

I get this one a lot too. I'm sure I'm standing a little more straight, but I wouldn't think enough to look taller.

A truck-driver in our support group says he get treated differently in his line of work now that he is rail thin; things like general disregard and slow to be noticed. I look taller because I am taller since fitting into high-heels; they make me over six-feet.

The overly PC environment now typically in the American workplace makes people AFRAID to say something.

Seriously, what if they say something and you get offended?

What if they say something and you HADN"T lost weight?

What if you are TERMINALLY ILL and they say "You lost weight! Good job!"

-See what I mean?

One of my closest colleagues, had/has difficulty conceiving. I noticed she was looking kind of plump and I wanted so badly to ask "Are you pregnant!!!?!?!?" But since she had lost one before, I knew that it could be really hurtful. Worse, what if she had just gained weight on accident and I am implying she is so fat she looks pregnant!?!!?

Most people are just too into their own lives. Some people notice but don't want to jinx you by commenting. Keep up the good work.

Positive compliments make you feel good for sure... but people I think (and rightly so) shy away from talking about a person's body size or physical appearance these days... "Oh my gosh you look so great, you've lost a lot of weight" that sort of backhandedly implies you didn't look good before, it's a hard thing to say without awkwardness... and as a poster mentioned above... rapid weight loss is not always a positive thing... result of illness. I'd leave it alone if I worked with you unless you brought it up.

Write down all the compliments you get and on days you are having a PLOM day reread them ;)
