My insurance doesn't cover gastric bypass surgery, so I'm having to do the self pay option. Anyone here has had to do Self pay? where did you finance your surgery through?

I was not a candidate for either of my bands or the revision to RNY based on my insurance requirements (Kaiser), and I wasn't going to gain more weight to get approved. I found a wonderful surgeon in MX who did all of my surgeries. I was a self pay for each of them.

I don't have anything saved up. My surgeon recommend care credit. I was going to look into that.

My experience with care credit was fine (for different medical prob than RNY). When I got it they gave you a year to pay it off and then tacked on the interest. My doctor would only do self-pay for the sleeve. because he felt that surgery needed less follow-up in the long run... and if people didn't have insurance they wouldn't want to do follow up.

Hi Joshie,

i took a home equity loan to finance mine.  Better interest rate than most other sources.

I was self pay.  My hospital had a finance plan.  I think I paid about a third down and they financed the balance for 3 years at zero percent.  Don't forget that you will also get a big tax write off as well.
