Beans...friend or foe???

I am not sure what to. Think about beans.   High in protein good. High in Carbs bad.... 

I have been avoiding them because of the carbs but I am thinking they might be safe food.

 

please share your bean wisdom

Beans are good carbs with fiber and protein.  I like to do chili with turkey and beans and include garbanzos because they are higher in protein.

They are high in complex carbs and fiber, yes.  But I don't think that is bad. We need some carbs in our diet.  I don't eat meat and rely on beans for a good bit of my protein.  They are low in fat, high in protein, high in fiber, tasty, affordable - what's not to like?

Beans are good! Not all carbs are created equal. Just be careful how you prepare them---something like baked beans with brown sugar and stuff like that are probably a no-no.

Beans are good in many ways. Great food for those early out, as you can make them very soft.

Carbs are not all the same. Beans, apples, and candy bars are all mostly carbs, but hardly the same.

6'3" tall, male.

Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.

I try to eat generally low carb, but I don't mind if my carbs go up for the day because I had beans. They're a good source of fiber and protein, so I'll take the carbs for that!

I can't digest them - they give me horrible gas and bloating - (and yes I tried ALL and any digestive enzymes - they do not work for me well enough- IBS-C) 

Most peopellike them and can eat them.. watch how well your body can tolerate them, you may start with small amounts, adding to protein dishes.. also make sure the carbs in them don't make you more hungry.  beano and good digestive enzymes can help with some gassy side effects for some people.  but if you get too much gas - after eating them - and that would make your life more difficult- then you may need to avoid them.

I am just like you HALA, I can not digest them and will clearout the house with the gas, not worth it to me!

After seeing my Nutritionist she says beans are great and they should be very mu*****luded in my diet.

I eat lots of beans! Love them and so does my family so we have them 4 x or more per week!
