Hair Loss?

Hey everyone! I've finally been approved by insurance and now everything is starting to set in...this is really going to happen. The dream has become reality!

My question is, how many of you guys suffered from hair loss? Has it been permanent? What, if anything has helped?

I know it sounds trivial for me to even worry about such a thing. But it has been in the back of my mind.

thanks so much! You all are a constant source of inspiration to me :)

Hair loss for me was a HUGE concern. I was told as long as I take my vitamins my body will have all it needs aside form a good diet getting in your water and protein to prevent hair loss. I just completed my 3 weeks and am now into my 4th week. It was very hard for me at first to even take the vitamins starting the second week. But as time goes by it does get better.

Thanks so much for your reply. I think you're right though, as long as I take good care of myself and take my vitamins I feel that the loss will be minimal!

Google Telogen Effluvium.   Nothing you do will make any difference.   It's a crapshoot whether you lose a lot or not - I lost very little hair, (however many surgeries I have had) but I have thick hair anyway - those with thin hair seem to notice the loss more.

Don't get sucked into buying expensive supplements or thinking drinking more protein shakes will make a difference ...

^^^^  What Kim said

There are no secret formulas, recipes, supplements or cat swinging that will determine whether or not you have telogen effluvium.  It's a combination of surgery, hormones, diet change and powers beyond your control.  It started happening to me between months 3-4.  When handfuls of hair start coming out in the shower, it tends to freak you out.

BUT...

There's nothing you can do to prevent it.  I tried to convince myself that I would be immune, but no such luck. I have been told that it normally stops around month 9.  All you can do is realize that it generally will stop, your hair will start growing again and try to focus on your successful weight loss in the present.

The hair loss doesn't usually begin until about 3 months after surgery.  My hair was thick and beautiful for a couple of months after surgery -- I got my protein in within a week --- and took all my supplements and even added biotin.  I was ****y thinking that I had escaped losing hair. But, for most of us, IT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT CAN BE PREVENTED BY OUR DIET. Like Kelly said, it's a crap shoot.  Read her link.   Almost on cue, I started losing hair at 3 months and 2 days.  It's just now starting to slow down.  It isn't fun, but it does pass.

Your welcome.  also wanted to mention that you can try BIOTIN . It is for hair skin and nails. I am starting to take this my self just because I would rather have more than enough nutrients than not enough. I have a friend who had this same surgery she is now at her goal weight. She did EVERYTHING the Doctors told her to do plus took BIOTIN. She looks amazing and never had any hair loss.
