How long did it take you to feel normal again??

RNY on 2/14 and I know everyone is different but how long did it take you guys to feel normal again after surgery. When did u feel like going out to the movies, etc?
I felt a lot better after three months, but it was probably six months before I felt really normal again.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I was really lucky, I felt pretty good in two or three days. I wanted to go to the movies the day after I got out of the hospital but my Mom convinced me not to....she pointed out that my system was weakened by having the surgery and that I didn't need to be in a public place close to all kinds of people who might have colds or the flu.
My surgeon released me for any activity when he released me from the hospital...anything that didn't hurt. He said if it hurts, stop doing it. I only have three incisions and didn't need a drain, so physically I felt pretty good!
I spent 5 days after my surgery in a hotel in Honolulu, so I split the day up in terms of activity. One day I went out all morning and went back to the room for the afternoon to "rest," I didn't nap, I just sat around and relaxed. The next day I relaxed in the morning and went out in the afternoon and so on.
I wasn't moving very fast, and I had to be careful getting up out of low chairs....it felt as though I had been doing alot of sit ups, so I didn't feel normal per se, but it sure was better than I expected to feel!!
Whatever you do, you will need to plan to be holding a bottle of water....you will be taking a sip every few minutes!
Good luck with your surgery, I hope you stay positive....attitude makes a big difference!

I'm 15 days post op and my abdominal pain ended about 3 days post op but I have been very tired ever since my surgery date on 1/24. I am back to work at my desk job and work out 5 days a week (walking 30 minutes and then later in the day doing 30 min on an elliptical and some weight training) so I'm back to my usual activities, but I wouldn't say I'm back to normal. I feel exhausted most of the time even after a good night's sleep.
I could sit through a movie in a theater but hate going to the movies because others are noisy. I spent most of my recovery time at home in a recliner watching Mad Men on Netflix.
It seems pretty common for people to take several weeks or even months before they get their energy level back. That seems to be the case for me so far.

My pain level was good even when I was first released from the hospital, but I was tired for awhile. I went back to work after 3 weeks and felt good during the day but tired in the evening and went to bed early each night. So I could have handled movies by then (at least a matinee!) By 6 weeks I really was feeling quite well, and I would say I felt close to normal.
I felt good enough to go shopping and to the local casino(because I had family in town that wanted to go) within 10 days. The first week I really just wanted to rest but I wasn't in any substancial pain after 3 or 4 days out. I started going to the gym at 3 weeks out..and at 4 weeks out all of the help I had left and I resumed taking full time care of my 1.5, 2.5 and 8 year old children. I've been going to the gym twice daily for the last week and feel great!
Everyone is different and I hope you have a smooth recovery!
