Does Size Matter?

My hubby and I went to the mall tonight to find outfits for a fund raiser we're going to tomorrow night.  While I was trying on dresses and pants, I was amazed at the difference in sizes from one maker to another.  Everything I took into the dressing room was a size medium, but only 2 things in that size fit me.  The pants were way too big and I needed a small.  One dress was so small that I would have needed an XL.  It's too bad that sizes are not universal, so we can know what to take in with us to try on.

It's called vanity sizing -- and I think I probably benefitted from it when I was larger, but now, I simply find it annoying.  I can wear from a size 4 all the way up to a size 8 in pants -- and frankly, if I were in Europe, I'd likely wear a size 10!  As time has gone one, I have learned to readjust myself to be able to look at something and have an idea if it will fit -- but that took a long time coming down from a size 28/30.

What Kat said.

And if you wonder in thrift stores or consignment stores - you may find that you need 14- 18 in more vintage clothes.

At one time size 4 was big on me... And I found at home my old (20 years old) jeans size 8 I used to wear...the old size 8 would not fit me comfortably..or rather..at all..

That's why now they have S, XS, XXS, since 0, size 00, and 000.

And they have "one size fits most"... Lol..

In a word NO.

Sizing irritates the **** out of me. Yea I'm happy when I go down a size right now but I'm not happy that I can't order a size and know it will fit me. DH is astonished when I say well I have no idea if this will fit just because a large fit one place might mean I need a 1x this place. He's like wtf?

Imo I don't care about the size of my clothing, I mean I do in the sense of wow look at this size I've never been in this one before!! But beyond that whatever.

Women's sizes are crazy. Most of men's sizes make sense -- they are actually inch measurements. There are still differences in the M, L, XL stuff, but 36-32 pants, or a 42L suit are pretty much the same wherever you shop.

But the variation in sizing is starting to creep into men's pants also, and that's annoying.  In most sizes I wear a 32 waist, but I've found some 30's that are still a little big.  And occasionally I have to go up to a 34 for better fit.  But overall,, we do have it easier.

Oh look at me -- I am a man so I can eat huge steaks and over 2000 calories a day and maintain!  Ooooohhhh, if I want to lose some weight, I will only eat 1800 calories tomorrow... Ohhhh --- and I can walk into a store and buy pants -- in a size -- and they will most likely match that size and fit!!  All the world makes sense for me!

Seriously, Grim.

Seriously.

Huh. Shows how much you know. I cut back to 1500 to lose a few. And I get all my clothes online. I just got new shirts. I go HERE because they have tall shirts, they are US made, and inexpensive. Every 18 months I get 2 in each color, and I'm done. Life is hard.
