5 months down

Nov 23, 2008

I got my 3rd fill on Tuesday Nov. 18.  I have 5.5 ccs in my 10cc band. I can't really eat much of anything. I am really eating less than half a cup of food at a time. I am hoping it gets better in the following weeks. I am down 44lbs, which is great, I think. I still love my band. Tomorrow's my birthday and I am having some cake...lol.

2 Month bandaversary!

Aug 16, 2008

So, I survived 2 months being banded. It's hard at times, but I am happy with my decision. I notice that I don't eat as much as I used to. I listen to my body when I am full. I get a "soft stop", which is a hiccup. If I eat past that I am bound to slime and then have a bad pain in my chest...so I don't. I see food in a different light now. I am used to my "baby" sized portions. Before I used to think I would starve looking at the small food on my plate. So;

1. I can live peacefully with the band
2. The band will let me know if I'm over doing it
3. The less deprived I feel the more I'm willing to try
4. Food is NOT the enemy
5. The band is my tool
6. I am losing weight
7. This is not a race, it took me a time to gain, it will take me time to lose

I survived my first fill!

I now have 2.5 ccs in my 10 cc band. The proceedure was painless..except for the tiny poke of lidocaine...I didn't even feel the needle go into my tummy or the port. Mines was done under fluoro and I got to see my pouch, which is smaller than I thought, and my band. My doc put 4ccs in first, but the barium wouldn't go down, so he took a little out. I am sad that I will be on liquids until Thursday, but I hope to have more restriction. I had restriction before the fill, so I hope I have more. I am so happy about this journey. Let the real weightloss begin! My next fill is Sept. 9.

Will work for food...better yet...will work for restriction!

Um...isn't it funny how things work out? I was all in a huff wanting to be on solid food and eat up a storm...well, as big of a storm the band will allow..lol...then I get to solid food...and boy is it good. But wait....I can't even eat that much. (which is the BIGGEST blessing of the band) I am soooo happy I have restriction. Last night I made a turkey burger with cheese and was only able to eat half! That has been this whole week...I can't eat that much. I eat and then get that warning sign to stop..that fullness in my chest...then I am full for about four hours before I get hungry again. I am really happy because it helps me make better choices on what I am going to eat...seeing as how I don't have a lot of room for much. I just can't wait until I have my first fill to see what happens.

What the band doesn't like...you'll know!

So, I am finally on mushie food...mushie means blended food...not cornbread...yes, CORNBREAD. I decided that I would have a little, and my dear band let me chew and swallow a couple of bites and then it hit me...WHAM!!! Like someone struck me in my chest. Everything came back up and then I was like, boy, am I stupid or what. So, lesson learned. No no foods; 1. Pasta 2. Cornbread. I guess my dear little band will let me know when it doesn't like something. I have such a hard head...where in the world did I factor in cornbread as being a mushie food? Diehard habits, I guess. My most favorite thing in the world is now no no food number 2.

What's new?

So, I went for my first post op appointment yesterday and everything is fine. Yay! Steri strips are off and incisions look beautiful. They are much smaller than other patients I have seen, so I am happy..not that I am gonna show my stomach anytime soon...but it's nice to know that they are small scars.

I will not be returning to work for another 4 weeks. I don't think I can stand this anymore...as weird as it may sound, I miss work. My doc says no lifting of things over 20lbs so I guess that means no work for me...I was supposed to go back in a week. My boss says that that's too early because I won't be able to scrub any surgeries,...geez..my job is so much lifting and moving patients there's no way to get around lifting. That's gonna be six weeks total...so, if you have a demanding job like mines, ask for the six weeks in advance to save you the pain of trying to figure out when you need to return.

I also have an appointment for my first fill...July 29...yay! I'm excited.

Live and definately learn...

So, today I am officially down 13lbs since surgery...yay! But I did something really stupid that, to me seems pretty counter productive. So, I ate 1/2 cup of noodles today when I am supposed to be on liquids for another 1 and a half weeks. Boy oh boy did my band let me know I was wrong......what ever made me come up with such a brilliant idea?? I got sick..the food got stuck..I foamed...and eventually everything came back up...

I guess I need to be patient and obedient. Gosh, Lord knows I don't want to go through that again.

I have my first post-op appointment tomorrow...I so will NOT mention  the noodle incident...but I do have some questions for my doc. This has definately been a learning experience.

I made it!

So, it's about a week down and I have lost 10lbs! I am so excited to be on the losers side. I feel really motivated. I had mostly no pain after surgery. I do remember waking up in post op and feeling a pain in my stomach. I have had no pains from gas...thanks to Dr. Nishi...and the only other discomfort was muscle pains...lack of potassium. Most of my pain, which has been minimal and I did not need to take pain meds...is where my port is...a little above my navel. I have my fill in about six weeks...two more weeks off of work. I see Dr. Nishi next Friday. I feel soooo blessed.

I guess I'm on my way!!!

My surgery is scheduled for Jun 11. I am really nervous. I have been thinking about this a lot, and I am happy that it is finally here. I do this everyday for my job...but I think that it's different because it's me this time. Everyone has been really supportive, so I guess I will keep u posted.
