Had Surgery 4-5mths ago? Or at a Platteau?

Nov 16, 2008

I just wanted to put this out there as the holidays are quickly approaching and emotions run high, depression is present and failure is on everyone's mind.

1. You just had surgery. You may have had a fill or 2 or even 3, but you probably don't have proper restriction. Yes you will lose some weight on liquids, but DO not fall prey and stay on them any longer than you need to. You need to learn to eat properly so that the band will work for you long term. So many fall into the "I'll stay on liquids and continue to lose" trap and never learn to eat well.

2. During the first 4-6wks after surgery you should be focusing on healing. Any weight loss is a bonus and should be viewed that way. After the healing process, your goal is to learn to eat properly. CHewing correctly and eating the proper items. This is one BIG reason that surgeons go slowly on fills. You have to learn the steps or you will be violently ill.

3. 1-2lbs a week should be your goal weightloss. Sure some lose more than that. Heck there were times I did (and still do on occassion) BUT that is the not the goal and you shouldn't be upset with yourself if you don't lose 6lbs this week.

4. Pounds will drop then the inches will follow. So if the scale isn't moving, it doesn't mean you are on a plateau. It might mean that your body is trying to play catch up. Most will over 2 weeks then nothing for 2 weeks while the inches drop. If you have not done so, take your measurements now.

5. AND the biggest one, and it applies to all of us, new and old...just because you can doesn't mean you should. Be selective about what goes into your mouth. Do not eat it just because you can and you have no problems. This will get you into serious trouble with the scale or with your band later. Eat what you should. Follow your rules and Remember PROTEIN FIRST. ;0

YOu will succeed. This band is an amazing tool!! How do I know? Because I lost 70lb in the first 6mths. I've had the baby post op and am back to losing again 18mths out. I've done the diets, the gyms, the gimics and this is all that has ever worked for me. I'm down 91lbs and happier than ever! You can do this!!! Do NOT let anyone get in your head and tell you otherwise.

This is me Oct 2006... 299.9lbs. Thats me in the green crops with the baby.

And me now...91lbs lighter with only 64lbs to go to my goal.

In addition to the Plateau Buster, you can change up your exercise plan as well. Such as if you are walking, change up things and do other exercises every other day so that you are not doing the same things on a daily basis. You can also add in weights. Good luck !!!
