Getting There...Slowly but surely!

September 23, 2007  I haven't updated in awhile...a long time actually.  So much has happened!  I'm down 93 pounds....169....woo hoo!!!...with 29 pounds to go.  I'm wearing mediums/larges in regular womens and 12's in pants.  If it wasn't for the 2 surgical hernias from my hysterectomy, I would probably be wearing smaller pants as well.  I'm feeling wonderful!!!!!!!!  I can sit in an airplane seat without any trouble as well as a school desk at my daughter's open house this year.  Last year, I was huffing and puffing and just squeezing into a desk (and if I stood up, the desk would have stood up with me!)  I exercise constantly and even have some lean muscles in my arms and legs.  The few clothes that I bought before we went on vacation are now too big including the bathing suit that I bought at the beginning of summer which was too tight when I first wore it.  This surgery was the best thing that I did for ME and my health as well as my family.  I'm off all meds except for my vitamins and haven't used my pap machine for sleeping since July (and I'm not snoring!).  It's not always easy especially if I take that 1 extra bite that I shouldn't but overall, if I hadn't done this surgery....I would probably be miserable and even more overweight with even more meds to take.  I don't always get all my protein in or 5 meals/snacks...but I try.  I have done well with my portion sizes overall when I eat as well as getting my liquids in and exercise.  I do have to change my exercise routine about every 2 to 3 weeks in order to see the scale go down.  It gets discouraging when the weight moves slowly but then I think back to that it has only been about 7 months and I'm down 93 pounds!!!!!!!!!  Amazing!!!!!!!!  I feel I am finally finding myself again and my family loves it.! 

Strawberry Pie Recipe

Now that I am able to eat my favorite fruit again, I have been experimenting with recipes.  I made my mom's recipe for strawberry pie using Slenda and sugar free jello.  You cannot tell and it satisfies the sweet craving.

1 frozen pie crust - bake according to directions.
1 quart of strawberries-wash, cut up, and of course dehead!
1 1/2 cups of Slenda
3 tablespoons of corn starch
1 small sugar free strawberry jello
1 1/2 cups water
fat free or sugar free whipped topping

Blend Slenda and corn starch together in sauce pan....add 1 1/2 cups of water.  Stir constantly. Heat to boiling while stirrring constantly.  Turn heat to medium....keep stirring and boil for 5 minutes.  Add box of jello and let cool for a few minutes.  Arrange strawberries in pie crust....add jello/sugar mixture...cover and refrigerate for a couple of hours.  Serve with whipped topping.YUM YUM...I think I'm going to go eat a sliver!

I should have posted sooner.  I am down 70 pounds!!!!!!!!!   Yes, I am finally under 200 pounds....in fact, I'm at 192 (on my scales without clothes....what a sight!)  I hit that plateau for 3 weeks and changed up my exercise.  I broke down and joined a gym close to the house and dropped 8 pounds in a week!  It does help to change up your routine....the body just loves to resist.  I also broke down and did some shopping and got some bras....what an experience....tried on at least 30!  Bought some...took back...bought some more which seem to be working.  I also some shorts, t-shirts, and pants in XL - regular women's clothes not PLUS!!!!!!!  I went to one of my brother's for Father's Day....they hadn't seen me since Christmas when I was a my biggest and they couldn't get over my weight loss.  People are really starting to comment and I FEEL so much better than I did last year at this time. I am glad I didn't jump off the bed on 2-28 and leave!

Okay, so I haven't posted in awhile.  I had hit a plateau since Mother's Day weekend and I was getting really...REALLY frustrated.  I kept going up and down (but not past 203).  Finally Tuesday the scales moved down to 202 and then on Wednesday to 201.2.  I know I am not suppose to weight constantly but I can't help it.  I guess the scales know how bad that I want to be under 200 pounds.  When I do....everyone is going to hear me!!!!!

Anyway, I am feeling so much better.  I actually went kayaking on Memorial Day with some friends which I would have never done a year ago.  It was great!!!!!  I went to a meeting for my daughter tonight and I was able to comfortably sit in a chair and actually had elbow room!!!!!!  I'm walking around and not huffing and puffing.

On Tuesday, I went to the local support meeting (I'm trying to upload the photos girlfriends but not having any luck....the site just stalls on me but I'm going to keep trying).  It was great seeing less of Katy's mom and Jennifer B but we missed Dena and Jill.  We met some other people and I got a compliment from some people that I didn't even know.  They told me that I looked great and couldn't believe that it had only been 13 weeks since I had had the surgery.  That was a "WOW" moment for me.  I have been having a few lately so I shouldn't be getting so frustrated with the scales because my energy level is so much better and people are really noticing that I am losing weight.  I'm between an 18 and 16 in size or a 1X.  I'm so use to buying plus sizes that I do not know where to begin looking.  I have always bought my clothes bigger than I probably really needed (in case they drew up....right!!!!...in the wash).  I do need to break down and buy a couple of bras though for my nipples on a string!  I might have to borrow my daughters' chicken thighs from their prom dresses to put in the bottom of my cups for some lift!

I am now 203 pounds (59 pounds down) and 4 pounds from my own first personal  goal of 199.  Slow going but people are starting to notice.  I am getting 1 hour of exercise a day plus doing ok on water intake and protein intake.  Some days are better than others.  My treadmill belt is slipping so I have been walking outside everyday this week.  I am contemplating buying a new machine or joining a gym for a month to see if I get anything out of it.

Weighed 213.6 today....weight varied between 213 and 214 for past 3 days.  It will be 8 weeks this Wednesday so I am almost down 50 pounds or 48. 4 pounds to be exact!  Woo HOOO!  Some people are starting to notice....mostly women.  I also fit into a size 16 in pants yesterday so I was excited!
