Two days Post Op

Feb 01, 2012

Well my surgery was on 1-30-12.  It went by quickly.  It seems surreal at this time.  I stayed overnight in the hospital.  I came home yesterday afternoon.  It seems all I am doing is sleeping.  The bariatric coordinator said I would have no energy while on clear liquids.  She did say to mix some juice and water to give me some energy so will try that later.  I should be grateful that everything went as planned.  Little pain.  I am having trouble drinking as much water as I should but I rather sleep.  Dont worry I am getting up and doing my walking.  I think I might have overdone it this morning, took a shower loaded diswasher and took dog outside felt tired afterwards and took a nap.  But hey I am up and drinking water now.  Well for a little while anyway.

Preop diet

Jan 19, 2012

In reading posts I know I don't have a bad pre op diet.  I can eat regular foods just low carbs.  I have to stay under 60 carbs per day which is better than Atkins, lol.  But it is still hard.  Went to a birthday dinner at an Italian restaurant and of course first thing they brought was bread.  But I manage to stay away from it.  Had steak and spinach.  I think the hardest part for me will be the eating at home.  I am not a great cook and we eat most of our meals out.  My husband loves to  grill and eats healthy anyway  so that will help.  I am just mourning food.  I want cookies and cakes and chocolate  but I know I can't have it.  The chocolate protein shakes that I have been drinking help.

My Story

Jan 15, 2012

Well my story is like most people on this site.  I have been overweight most of my life. I try not to let it affect my everyday life but it is hard not to when you are carrying an extra one hundred pounds.  I started this journey to live a better more active life.

I have a great job that I love and a wonderful husband who is my number one supporter.  I had thought about RNY surgery several years ago but thought that I could lose this weight on my own.  I tried and tried but could not.  When I could not lose weight for my wedding I knew that I needed help.

On November 29th I atteneded my first appoitnment with Dr. Harris.  I attended his informational seminar that afternoon.  The two nutritional appointments fell on my days off.  The two psych appoinments were easy to scehdule and attend.  It just seemed so easy.  The biggest thing I was afraid of was that my insurance would not cover it.  Well after everything was completed I called to set up my second appointment on Jan 11.  The bariatric coordinator asked if I could come in the same day.  Within the hour I was sitting in the doctors office.  The bariatric coordnator said that she would submit the paperwork and at the latest I would know next week.  Well I had insurance approval within 24 hours.  They have my surgery scheduled for Jan 30, 2012.  I am excited and scared at the same time.  I start my pre op diet tomorrow.
