10 Months!

Aug 21, 2013

Well I just passed my 10 month mark and everything seems to be going great. I am down 160 lbs and for the first time since I was a kid I can wear single digit size clothes. All of my health issues have disappeared. I am dealing with gall bladder attacks though. I go to the doc tomorrow and was told to be prepared for surgery tomorrow afternoon. Yilkes! I spent weeks preparing for my bypass surgery so the thought of only having two days to prepare is a little scary. I have three kids to make arrangements for plus I am working now. Oh well I guess it will all work out in the end. I hope everyone else is doing well!

6 months!

Apr 19, 2013

Just a quick update for me. The 17th was my 6 month mark. It has been an amazing journey so far. I started at 350 the morning of my 2 week liquid diet and have lost a total of 126 lbs so far! I went from a size 24/26 down to a 14/16. I can wear XL tops finally. I can actually shop in regular sizes for the first time in 20 years. The best part is that all of my comorbitdities are now gone! I hope everyone can have as great as an experience as I have had!

17 Weeks out!

Feb 13, 2013

Thought I would give a quick update. I will be 17 weeks out tomorrow. I started my journey at 350 lbs and as of today I now at 261 lbs! I wore a size 24/26 and 3x or 4x shirt on day of surgery and I now can fit into 16's and 18's and XL or 1X shirts. I can't believe the difference in myself. I have so much more confidence than I ever thought was possible. I started wearing makeup and jewlery for the first time in almost 20 years. My marriage went through a rocky point but we have been able to come out stronger than ever and hell even the sex life has improved dramatically. For my friends waiting for surgery I hope that you have as an amazing an experience as I have had!

1 Week Checkup

Oct 25, 2012

Well I went in today for my one week checkup. I spent a good hour talking with Shannon, my dietitian, about my diet and any issues that I had dealt with. I have been lucky because so far everything has gone great. No pain just some discomfort here and there. She says that I am eating well and from the looks of my diet log I am following the rules to a T! That really helped my confidence because I am so worried about doing something wrong.
Next was that big first weigh in. In the three weeks since I started my pre op liquid diet I am down...........27 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was shocked by that. I gained 10 pounds in water weight at the hospital which means that since my surgery I have lost that 10 lbs and 10 more since. My surgeon was very pleased with the progress that I have made. My incisions look good and he expects them to continue to heal nicely.
This appointment was just what I needed to remind me that I had made the right decision and that I could do this!

No buyers remorse yet!

Oct 22, 2012

Well I am 5 days out now and doing fairly well. My surgery went well and thank goodness there were no complications. That hospital staff was amazing and so helpful. I did very good my first few days but seem to be struggling some now. I never realized how long it would take me to eat just 3 oz of food! It makes it difficult to get all of your liquids in for the day when you are trying to follow the guidelines on when to eat and when to drink. I will get this done pat though! Including my pre-op diet I am now down about 20 lbs. I was somewhat disappointed in that until I realized how much water weight I had gained and lost!

My Beginnings

Oct 03, 2012

I can honestly say that since my doctor encouraged me to seriously check out weight loss surgery my journey has been both quick and positive. Dr White, my surgeon, requires everyone to attend an informational seminar to get a good idea of what WLS really is and how much effort and change is going to be needed for a person to be successful. After the seminar on June12th I was all in. I saw the pyschologist a few weeks later and started working with my nutritionist throughout the summer. The pysch eval took longer than I expected to come back which probably pushed my date back some but I passed and that's all that really counts. I was finally able to have my consultation with Dr White on August 7th and I received my approval from the insurance company on Aust 10th. I was shocked that they approved me so quickly! I was all set to start fighting for my health that when I got the approval right away I almost didn't know what to do with myself. The last several weeks have been hard but I have also enjoyed them so much. I have been able to see just how much support I do have and what a wonderful group of people I have been able to surround myself with. I am grateful for the pre-op testing also. Mine revealed health issues that I had no idea I was even having. They just confirmed to me that I had made the right decision for myself and my family!
