My story is much the same as many of the other members. I have been overweight my whole life. Had to have my school uniforms specially made whilst in primary school. Had to learn to sew as a teenager because there were no shops around in the small country town where I grew up that sold age appropriate clothes in the size I needed. Gradually expanded over the years until I reached the point where I am now.

I have always been able to do most things and haven't let my weight rule who I am. However, as I have gradually got bigger it is gradually started to affect my health and other aspects of my life that it hadn't previously. I have sleep apnoea and one of my pre-op blood tests revealed that I am pre-diabetic. My Mum has pretty significant high blood pressure and mine is on the upward trend. The excess weight is also quite detrimental for the 3 bulging discs I have in my lumbar spine and the arthritis in my ankle (from a netball injury many years ago). I am also having trouble running around the dog agility course. This is a sport I love and I'm not giving it up. It's time to change!!!!

I live with my partner and our various animals. One of my partners sons will be living with us from next year. My extended family are very supportive of my decision. My Mum wanted to come up for my surgery but it is just too hot at that time of year for her and I'm hoping that all will go smoothly as even though she is supportive it's still one of her babies having surgery and she is always there for these sort of things in the lives of her children.

My surgery is booked for 28/11/07 and even though I'm a bit nervous I am also starting to get quite excited.
