2 weeks post-op and 24 lbs lighter

Jul 29, 2008

The past two weeks has flown by.  The week in Michigan was spent walking the mall and sipping, sipping, sipping.  The 7 hour drive home wasn't even so bad and it only took about 45 minutes longer than the drive up.  Mom flew home the 24th.  I've been walking, riding my stationary bike, and cleaning what I can within reason - still no lifting much.  I have so much more energy.  I can see the loss on my face and feel it already in my clothes.  I don't go back to work until 8/11 - and they have no idea why I've been off other than medical time., this will prove interesting!
I'm never hungry - I eat cause it's time to eat.  I haven't had problems getting in my water and Sonic ice has been my savior there...they sell it here in town and I chew on it almost constantly.  I've made me a few things to eat...my portugese beans and then whizzed em....YUMO!  I'm still playing with a chicken salad that tastes good.  I've had some issues with milk but not consistantly so not too sure what's up with that.
Now.,..I am NO LONGER insulin dependent!  No pump, no oral meds at all for diabetes.  AMAZING!!!!  My sugars are between 95 and 121 fasting or 2 hours after meals.  My diabetic specialist was shocked and my family doctor called to check on me over the weekend and she too was VERY surprised.  All in all I'm VERY VERY happy with my sleeve even though it wasn't my first choice it's working and it's my tool for the job!

My journey is about to begin.....

I pick Mom up from the airport this afternoon and we head up to Michigan tomorrow....pre-op, doc, and nut appointment Monday.  Then 7am we'll be at POH for surgery at 9am.  I'm so excited, anxious, nervous, and a little scared.

The doctor has tried to talk me into the sleeve but I'm going to stick to my decision of rny - the only thing that may trip me up is having had open surgery on my stomach 4 times previously and the adhesions that may have caused.  I've prayed and thought and read and talked to find out if indeed that is something that could hamper me getting the sleeve instead of the rny.  I have to sign paperwork that he can do the sleeve if he's unable to do the rny...since I'm paying for it myself I don't want him to go in see he can't do the rny and do nothing.  I need a tool and if it has to be the sleeve...I hope and pray I'll be able to make it work for me.
