The Decision was Easy.

Honestly...I'd never given WLS a thought until about 9 months ago.  I'd been like a lot of you....yo-yoing up and down with my weight....usually taking off 20 pounds...back on....off 10...up 15....you know the drill.

I've been overweight since College.  You know the " freshman 10?"  Mine was the freshman 75.  After hitting my all time high of 405# in October of 2003, I decided to join Weight Watchers.  By June of 2004....I had taken off 85 pounds and was putting in an hour each day on the eliptical plus 250 crunches.  However....I paid a price.  With so much weight....I basically destroyed my knees.  So...in January 2006, I had knee surgery on the left leg.  My orthapedist (sp?) told me that I will need my knees replaced within 10-15 years.

So...in October of last year, I started to look into WLS.  I'm fortunate in that my health insurance company pays all but $250 for the procedure.  I picked out the list of local network surgeons....and attended a seminar with Dr. Adam Naaman in November 06.  I started the mandatory 3 month diet....then had to go an additional 3 months.  Finally met all of the criteria and had my initial consult on 5/29/07.  Got insurance approval on 6/29 and will have RNY on 7/23.

Some people are surprised...some concerned.  I've told few people....I just feel this is my business and not anyone else's.  I've done all the research....read countless stories...studied the diets and expectations.  Now...its just go time!

To answer the question "why?"  Quite simply....I want to be around to see my kids grow up.  My daughter is 14....frequently is the devil's child....but she is my girl.  She always tries to protect me regarding my weight...you know...."daddy...you are not overweight".  My son..11...is brutally honest..."yes dad...you are fat".   Gotta love this combo.

Anyway...this is a brief history of me.  Till later.....
