My WLS Journey
Aug 03, 2009
As my weight has increased considerably more as the years go by, I have always thought of having WLS. My PCP recommended that I look into it and that it would be a good tool for me to lose weight. I suffer from asthma, sleep apnea and high blood pressure and by losing weight, it would help me alieviate some of the health issues that I have been having. It is not until this year that the thought has come into my mind more and more. I have been speaking to a close friend for the past few months about WLS and she has given me the initiative to finally make the decision to start the process of WLS. In May, 2009, I met with another friend who had RNY surgery 2 years ago. She met with me, told me her story, spoke with me in depth and helped me make the final step to fill out the forms for OOC surgery. I researched Barix and found that Dr. Pop was the chief surgeon there. I decided after speaking with others who had this surgery that he was the one. I already knew that Rny was the surgery choice for me. I filled in the OOC forms and Dr. Moll was once again here in town and signed off my forms to OHIP. He said that I would be a good candidate and said that there shouldnt be a problem with my forms. They were off on June 11th and tracked them. They arrived at OHIP on Monday, June 15th. I called Barix and had my consult on Monday, June 29th. My husband and I drove down to Yipsilanti, a 4 1/2 hr drive one way. He was very knowledgeable, funny and very nice. After we met with him, I knew that he was the surgeon to do my surgery.
Then the waiting game began. On July 15th, 2009 I got a phone call from Dr. Moll's office that I was approved!!!! I was in seventh heavan!!!
