Hello, My name is Carla Page-Campbell. I've been overweighted all of my life. As long as I can remember I've loved to eat - not simply out of emotion but because I love food. I was raised in rural Tennessee and most of my family have issues with being overweight. I was never taught how to eat balanced meals and of a course of time, which until recently, I've really tried to turn things around. I've tried many many diets, diet pills and I've lost weight and regained it more times than I can count. It seemed as if nothing ever worked for long.
It was not until earlier this year when I really started to worry about my health and the serious issues I was confronting. I had diabetes, high blood pressure, acid reflux, high cholestrol among many other medical issues and with a 4yr old to raise, I knew I was in trouble. I considered many options, including trying the diet pill way and/or diet plan again. To be honest, I just could not stomach taking anymore pills and really did not want to have the same conversation with my doctor as I've had the past 11 years.
I saw a commerical on tv about the LapBand and was very interested. I started doing some research on the internet and located a Bariatric Surgeon in my area. After researching at least 3 surgeons including one that does tummy tucks, I decided to contact one and made my first appointment. The process was quite lenghty, and after an inital consulation with both the bariatric surgeon and tummy tuck surgeon I knew the right way to go would be to have bariatric surgery.
My surgery date was September 2, 2008. To date, I've lost over 15 pounds and I feel so much better. Yes, there was times I said to myself, "What have I done?" Today, I'm saying "Why did it take me so long?" I have been taken off of all my medications with the exception of 1.5 pills. When I started this journey, I was taking 14 different kinds of meds a day.
So it has been worth it........
