Hi everyone I am a 30 year old female, and have been on a mini roller coaster ride to getting my surgery. I have been obese all my life, 5 years back I managed to loose 100 lbs only to regain it all back.. right to the lb.
I was in a emotional slump for the last few years, unhappy in all areas of my life and food has always been my comfort. So I ate and ate myself to this point.
I have had high blood pressure for the last 10 years, I had it under control but because at some point I gave up on myself, I stopped taking my meds.
Bringing me to Nov 1, 2011. I got a severe nose bleed... it was even coming out in clots and would not stop so I went to emerg.
My reading was 248/190 seconds away from a stroke or heart attack.
8 hours of medication every half hour.. to be stablilized at 160/120. I was released with a perscription and told to see a family doctor immediately and get this treated.
I had a family doctor although she cared for my well being her answer to everything was loose weight, it's because of your weight.. Guess what, when I was at my lowest I still had high BP.. nothing in tests showed a cause so .. I dunno. Also I smoked since I was 16, ( Nov 1 kicked my ass and I stoped immediately)
So I didnt want to return to her with the 100 lbs regained and told I was fat.. guess what lady I know I live in this body.
So through my future sister in law her mother works at a doctors office, I got a new family doctor.
She is young and very openminded and realistic, we discussed my BP and then she said did you ever consider weight loss surgery?. I told her no, because I couldnt afford the $20K price tag.. she was like OHIP covers it.. would you want to do it?
I said sure, she submitted all the paper work, I was in a daze or sorts but thought I havn't made a decision I can always say no.
Jan 6 I got a call from my doc saying a questionnaire came in, I got mine as well.
