Maintaining my Weight
Oct 11, 2008
My one year surgery anniversary was actually 9/17 a year already it went fast.
At Goal?????
Jul 20, 2008
I felt happy with my weight loss at 86 pounds and my surgeon agreed with me at my 9 month check up. So I left that appointment with a goal of now working on maintaining my weight. Even though my original goal for myself had been 11 pounds lighter, my surgeons goal/prediciton was 1 pound lighter than where I am.
Today 7/20/08
I am now down another 3 pounds and still feel good about my weight. Not really trying to lose, eating when I am hungry usually 3 meals and a mini meal/snack. Sometimes I feel hungry frequently and the last week I have not felt hungry at all and have to make myself eat. I have just started noticing hair loss, not handfuls or anything but more hair loss than typical (mostly notice more hair strands in tub after bathing).
Exercise & the YMCA
Dec 06, 2007
Things had been going slow weight loss wise and it was discouraging. One week I only lost a pound and then no weight loss at all the next week.
I kept having negative talks with myself about exercise. About 5 weeks ago I took a tour of my local YMCA, it looked like they had everything I needed and more. Finally about 3 weeks ago I joined. I have felt much better since joining my goal is to go Tuesday & Thursday and then Saturday & Sunday. I have started slow with the cardio equipment, 30 minutes each time.
I will add in the strength training in a week or so. They also have a lot of classes I might want to try when I am in a little better shape. I want to be able to fully participate and finish a class, lol.
Anyway the best part is I am losing more weight, nothing earth shattering but 2 lbs one week, 3lbs the following week, and 2 lbs already this week and I still have 3 more days to this week before my "official" Monday morning weigh in.
Surgery Done!
Sep 30, 2007
Well I had my surgery on Monday Sept 17th and everything went well no complications. I had a private room which was a nice surprise I was not sure what to expect. I was grateful for my pain medicine pump/button, they did take it away the day after surgery though. After my little magic button went away though they gave me liquid Percocet instead and it did fine. On the day of surgery I could not have anything to drink but they did give me a little sponge thing on a stick that I could dip in ice and swab my mouth with. I passed my leak test the following day and was able to start drinking liquids.
After my second night in the hospital I wanted to go home I was uncomfortable enough to want my own bed and bathroom and comfortable enough to feel ready to go home. So they released me at 11AM, I did take a shower at the hospital that was tiring but nice to feel showered.
I was on liquids only until my follow up appointment on Tuesday Sept 25th. I actually felt weaker each day after surgery with no protein intake. At my follow up visit they removed my drain, I had a major gut cramp as I felt the drain snake through my innards and burning on the side they pulled they drain out, but it only lasted seconds thank goodness. After that visit I have been allowed to have pureed foods focusing on protein of course.
Now today is already Sunday the 30th and I cannot believe it has been 2 weeks since surgery. I have only had one bad night so far, excruciating gas pains from about 1am until 4am. Still had gas pain after 4am but to a much lesser extent. So I am eating slower and taking smaller bites. I am already getting sick of cottage cheese and scrambled egg. I am feeling braver about experimenting a little more with food though, I have had Tuna pureed and mixed with a little mayo, pureed corn beef hash, pureed chicken, mashed potatoes with a sour cream sauce tonight (cooked in crock pot so my husband and I could eat the same thing, I just pureed mine.)
I am walking but not really any great distances just taking it slow for now and figure I will need to get into a real workout routine when I am released to be able to exercise at my 1 month follow up.
That’s all for now have been meaning to update and wanted to get some things down before I forget everything. Oh I almost forgot I had lost 10 pounds from my pre-op appointment on Sept 12th to my follow up appointment on Sept 25th.

Pre-Op visit done
Sep 13, 2007
Pre-Op visit was still a little scary seemed like one of the main points was to review every possible bad thing that could happen and then have me sign a consent form for the surgery stating I am aware of all the risks and that I am still voluntarily requesting the surgery.
Also some review of what to expect which was good, a short video, some reading review, and then my surgeon made sure I did not have any questions.
Then I met with anesthesiology and reviewed health background got a brief summary of what to expect at surgery, this was not scary at all.
So Surgery is a go for Monday, Sept 17th!

Letter from my surgeons office
Sep 04, 2007
I do not even remember what my weight was at my initial consultation because it was June of 2006. I know I have gained a little (maybe 10lbs), I also knew my surgeon says that she will not do surgery if you gain weight.... I guess I was hoping I would have a little leeway since my initial wheigh in was a year and 3 months ago.
Nothing I could do when I got home because the office was closed but I will call her assistant tomorrow to find out what my weight was at my initial appointment and if I have to definately be at or below that weight.
I may have to go on a liquid protein diet a few days before the pre-op visit. I also am definitely eating sensibly until then.
On my way ...
Aug 30, 2007
Then my pre-op visit is September 12th I will see my surgeon and the anesthesiologist.
I will try to upload some photo's this weekend.
