I have read we can gain weight (water) following surgery. I weighed 136 yesterday, but today I weigh 148. 12 pounds how can that be? I am swollen only a little. Where does the gain originate? Apart from drinking a lot, how long does this gain continue. I can walk with much difficulty. Do i increase my fluids as much as possible

When I had hernia surgery in Dec. I gained a crazy amount of weight. went from 141 to 150. Came home and ate the way I did prior to the surgery and drank my water and it went down within a few days.

That IS crazy. I don't know about you, but where my scale sits on the floor can make a difference too.  Keep your fluids up - that will wash the rest of it out of you.

Hope you're feeling better!

I'm confused about what you gained when. In the hospital, you are hooked to an IV and if you are in there for about 24 hour, you can easily gain about 10 pounds of fluid from the IV. In there longer and you can gain more.

But it sounds like you are home? Or something ....

Iv fluids can add weight, but also you have to deal with the trauma and inflammation of the surgery too.

Keep up on your fluids and protein to help healing.

It was GI surgery wasn't it. You could be constipated which would double up with the IV fluids they gave you. As WLS patients I definitely believe we see far bigger swings in weight than normies due to BMS (sorry TMI).

Give yourself some time to heal. If you know your diet's good stay off the scale for at least another week so you don't stress yourself. All the best for a speedy recovery ((hugs)).

Stay off the scale for a week or two!! Focus on resting and getting back up to par.
