Hello All. My story is I had RNY 4/30/2007. I am 4'10 and my starting weight was 205. The lowest I got down to was 115 in 2009. In 2009 I had my gallbladder removed and a total hysterectomy done. After that in the last 3 years I have put on 25-28 lbs. I feel like the biggest failure. I am in a size 12 now and it makes me so mad. Last night I decided to go back to one week of just protein drink to get me back on track. So my plan is to have 2 Atkins protein shakes a day (10gm) each of protein, (2) Bari Wise drink mixes that you put into 8oz water (15gm)each and a protein bar (21gm) which would put me at 71 gm protein daily. And of course drink lots of water. How much protein should i be getting in daily? Does anyone have a suggestion for a good calcium citrate vit? I need support to get back on track. When i had my surgery I told myself that i would never put weight back on and yet it happened in the last 3 years. My doctor told me that alot of women gain weight back after a HYST but he is not sure why but he sees it alot. This did not make me feel any better. Is there a different group that I should look into?

Thanks for any help, support and advise. I really need it

Welcome to the group....

Be careful with protein bars...most have a boatload of artificial sugars and check the carb count...and ditch the Atkins protein drinks (10 grams is pitiful)...find one with a minimum of 30 grams a scoop...you can get samples at Vitalady or go to Sam's (I know for sure and maybe Costco) for the Premier Protein High Protein shakes (30 grams each).

Upping your protein is a good idea but I would aim for at least 100 if not more grams daily.

Also post in Roz's M&M thread that she has every day here on the board for ideas of what is helping others and so others can help out.

As far as the calcium citraite...also Vitalady again.

Hi!  and Welcome to the board.

I agree with Liz - you need a better protein souce.  I find with the protein bars, there's too many carbs and it makes me even hungrier...  Also be sure it's Whey Protein Isolate as the first ingredient...

Vitalady does have samples to try.  I also like Vitamin Worlds chocolate - mixes well.  I know Vitamin Shoppe carries the Syntrax line.

I too am going back to protein drinks - and want to stick just to straight protein for a few days to "decarb".  I've put some weight back on too - and I swore I wouldn't do it again either!!

Lots of us here on maintenance, and some are struggling more than others.. you'll fit right in!

Thank you. So you suggest just protein drinks right now and no bars? I plan on doing this for 7-10 days. any other suggestions on what do try doing these days?

If  you plan on doing it more than a few days, I'd recommend the 5-Day Pouch Test.  Its geared for us RNY'ers who seem to have lost track of our pouch and to get back on track with our eating.

http://www.5daypouchtest.com/plan/theplan.html   It will tell you want you can/can't eat for the entire 5 days.  Many find (as I did) that after the 5th day your hunger is less and your pouch has shrunk some.  It gets you "back to basics".

When I did it after the 2nd day I got kinda lightheaded and woozy - that's the decarbing process going on - getting the toxins out of your body - just be prepared for the first few days to be tough, as you'll feel hungry.  The 3rd day on will get much easier!

Please let us know how you're doing - you definitely will be helping others that are strugging too!

You've gotten great advice, so I just wanted to say welcome.

Dont beat yourself up about this. The good news is that you're not in denial and are facing your reality.  Don't forget that protein and veggies work very well to help us stay full and on track.

Welcome.  there are a bunch of us learning maintainance so you will fit right it.

I agree with trying some different shakes.  if you are planning on doing 7-10 days, you might want to think about meal replacement shakes instead of just protein.  maybe the 5 day pouch test instead.  Seems easier to me at any rate and everyone reports good results.

You still have your tool, you can do this.
