Hello all!!! I am now back on my journey towards the VSG. I am doing alot of my preliminary test and hoping for a December date. I look forward to words of encouragement, the good and the bads of everything (im a realist:-)! )also to make new friends who have been or going through the process. So thanks in advance and everyone have a great day.

I'm so glad you are moving forward in your journey to the VSG and new health and energy.  I wish you every success.

I want to encourage you.  This surgery really works.  It changes our bodies in ways that make it possible to succeed.  I could never manage my weight for any length of time before surgery, and it wasn't from a lack of trying.  But after surgery, I lost 225 pounds, and I've been maintaining close to my goal weight for about 2 years.

Its not easy.  I have to be aware of my food intake, and actively manage my obesity even now.  But the surgery does make it possible -- not easy but possible

I wish you the best on your weight loss journey.

Carol

The Bads:

  1. Pre-surgery nerves
  2. Pre-surgery liquid diet
  3. Pain and/or soreness from surgery (this varies tremendously among sleeve patients; most have minimal pain)
  4. Possible complications (dehydration being the most common and most easily preventable)
  5. Post-op stalls (they will happen)
  6. Getting used to small portions of food
  7. Getting used to the fact that trigger foods (junk carbs) are a thing of the past and should never be a part of your regular diet again
  8. Dealing with people who think the surgery is a bad idea or who try to get you to eat things you shouldn't

The Goods:

  1. Losing weight fast for 6 months to a year post-op (if eating the right foods in the right amounts and in the right order-- that's what the sleeve will help you do)
  2. Huge improvements in health, energy, well-being, and appearance
  3. Getting off medications that you may have been taking for years
  4. Learning to appreciate and relish healthy foods
  5. Being able to move around comfortably
  6. Being able to exercise and play sports easily and enjoyably
  7. Huge gains in self-confidence and optimism
  8. Being able to be a more involved and active mom/dad/grandma/grandpa to your children/grandchildren
  9. Being a better employee (fewer sick days, more energy for work)
  10. Buying smaller-sized stylish clothes and looking good in them (expense is a minor Bad)
  11. Keeping weight off (no more major yo-yo-ing)
  12. BECOMING THE PERSON YOU WERE ALWAYS MEANT TO BE!!!!!!
