SO now that I have progressed to a soft food diet, the instructions from my NUT says that I can eat a little hot cereal. I do not know how to eat hot cereal without putting lots of sugar and butter in it. How do you eat it?

Well if you like grits, you could make those and just put butter and salt and pepper on them. Or if you want sweet you could use food flavorings and stevia or sugar free torani syrups. ;)

I wouldn't eat hot cereal without adding some kind of protein... you can stir some protein powder into it, plain or flavored. Add some sweetener and cinnamon.

I'd stay away from the cereal. Instead, I'd check out The World According To Eggface

She has a great page with many recipes for the puree and soft food stages.

If you really want to have the cereal, substitute sugar with Splenda or Truvia.

Adding a little coconut oil also adds a little bit of sweetness without sugar. Its a flavor that takes a little bit to get used to, but it's really flavorful and aromatic.

Thanks I will check that out. I know that I probably should not eat cereal it's just I feel so limited as to what to eat. I have mainly been eating scrambled eggs and refried beans but I am growing tired of it. Need some variety.

Careful with it- that stuff can be triggery for us. I had to eat carbs early out due to low blood sugar, and I had to pretty quickly take that off the list due to eating it and then an hour later wanting to repeat, then repeat, repeat... If not triggery add stevia or splenda. Karik is right about Eggface- go there and stick to protein options to the greatest extend possible right now. I lived on soft scrambled eggs with low cal feta and hot sauce at this phase. And yogurt. Always yogurt and shakes.

IMO, cereal is not a weight-loss friendly food (the opposite in fact) so I would stay far away from it.

They aren't called NUTS for nothing.  Bad advice abounds from many of them.

Cereal is high in carbs and not conducive to weight loss.  There are other options during the soft food diet.  As Kairk mentioned, check out Eggface's blog for ideas.  If you haven't had the Ricotta Bake, it's a little slice of heaven for a post WLS menu.

I ate cream of wheat with a little Stevia and cinnamon. Tasted delicious! I also cooked it with Almond Milk.
