Update - Day 3

It is the morning of day 3 post surgery. I am still on pain meds every 4 hours and anti-nausea every 8 hours. I got a bit nauseated yesterday afternoon so am not taking any chances.

My sister is still staying with me and I cannot thank her enough for that. She is helping to keep track of all my meds, forcing me to sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk. When did she get to be so bossy?!

Getting up out of a chair still hurts pretty badly and I can't lay down because of the gas pains in my chest and shoulders. I'm excited for those to go away so that I can actually lay down to sleep. This recliner has been my best friend since I got home yesterday morning.

Today I get to shower. I think that will help me feel better too. I look forward to feeling better everyday and can't wait until I'm out of pain.

These next couple days my focus is to try to get protein and water in. My goal is at least 32 oz of water but I want to get in 64 oz. I also need to try to get in at least 60 oz of protein. I tried an Unjury strawberry protein shake yesterday and it was unbearable. I'll try a different one today and will also pick up the ones suggested from Costco/Sam's Club and Walgreens.

I guess that is it for now. "Talk" to you all soon.

Revision on 11/24/15

Good to hear you are doing well! I liked unjury before I was banded but couldn't stand the taste afterwards. I'm having revision to sleeve on 11/24, hoping I can still stomach the protein I use then!

Good luck!!

The two things to be concerned about are getting dehydrated and developing a blood clot. Sipping and walking are what takes care of that. Glad your bossy sister is taking care of you. It gets better every day. After a week I had no pain and felt wonderful.

I'm glad to hear you are on the mends. You might try chicken broth with unflavored protein powder. Sometimes warm liquids sit better in the new tummy. Just don't let the broth get too warm or the protein powder denatures and clumps up.

best of luck with your healing.

Glad to hear you are up and about. It really does get better everyday. I am 19 days post-op and still have just the tiniest bit of uncomfortableness (don't think that's a word but oh well) when I bend over. Squatting and using by legs has been a big help. I agree with Cappy chicken broth with unflavored protein in it or the unjury chicken soup were great in the beginning. I also didn't like the unjury strawberry. I have found that I can stand it in Crystal light lemonade and only use about 1/2 to a 3/4 of a scoop.

Best of luck to you and continued success on your recovery!

Glad you are doing well and you have a sister that is taking such good care of you. The pain does get better every day. I couldn't do cold liquids for the first week either. Water at room temperature was a lot easier. I was lucky and didn't have the gas pains after surger but I can totally relate to the pain of getting out of a chair. I had mine done by the Divinci robot so I have five incisions in a straight line at where my waistline. Keep up the sipping and walking. Hope you start to feel better soon

Hang in there- the first 3 or 4 days are the worst IMHO due to the gas pain. You will be amazed at how much better you feel around day 7. You have a fantastic attitude!

The only protein drink I can tolerate and even enjoy is the Premier Protein in chocolate flavor. I'm on day 5 out of surgery and feel so much better every day, but am still on the pain meds and anti-nausea meds. The pain is most severe when trying to get out of or into bed.

Sounds like you have a very supportive caretaker. I hope you heal up fast.

Glad you're doing well.

This is my third day post-op. Only taking pain meds to sleep. My walking is up to about two miles today and I'm getting around 50oz of water, plus three "meals" and a protein shake.

The strangest thing is my total apathy for food and on top of that everything tastes crazy strong. I know that changes over time though.

I have a nice little app on my phone that beeps every 15 minutes to remind me to drink and it's kept me in line with no problems.

The gas is obnoxious, but I wouldn't say it's painful--just uncomfortable.

Kind of fun, really--just playing video games with my family, reading, taking little walks with the dogs--I'm looking forward to another week and a half with no work :)

Okay so I know you posted this a couple weeks ago but just wanted to let you know something I have tried. I'm not sure if you have a whole container of the strawberry unjury or not but don't want you to have to get rid of it as it's all expensive. Anyway another way that I used mine is to mix in into plain greek yogurt. I use about 1/3 scoop to 1/3 cup yogurt and it makes strawberry flavored yogurt that's actually not too bad. Hope this is helpful, I was making this today and thought of your post here. Strange how random the brain can work sometimes!
