Walking...

I know that walking has contributed to my weight loss.  Is there anyone else out there that absolutely loathes walking?  I guess I don't enjoy it as much as others because my feet and legs hurt so much sometimes.  With the fall season now upon us I think I'm going to have to copped to it and get a Y membership so that I can lift weights and go swimming or use an elliptical because walking has not been cutting it for me.

I know it's supposed to be healthy and great and wonderful but for me it's just a drag... And I am searching for motivation.

I did not like walking at all. It hurt! When I had about 40 pounds left to lose I sucked it up and went and got a gym membership. I started working with a trainer and realized that I really liked weight training and circuit training and non impact cardio (that didn't hurt!). I became a gym junkie for about 2 years. My obsession with the gym has tapered off, but I still work out regularly and enjoy it.

Never liked walking when I was heavy. I do enjoy it now, though. My feet, calves and shins don't hurt when I walk the way they used to, so it's become a pleasant thing to do.

I think that I will benefit from a gym membership.

I like walking, but it isn't for everyone. If you loathe it, find something else that you enjoy. Swimming is great exercise and easy on the joints. Rowing machines and recumbent bikes let you sit and still have a good workout. I dislike weight training, but there's no substitute for that. I'll have to suck it up and get to it.

Bottom line -- do something you enjoy. Otherwise, you'll never keep at it. And for "losers" like us, it's something we have to do for life.

I have a history of generally likely physical activity but did not tolerate walking at my highest weights.  Like you said....there is pain!  For a long time, I used a reclined stationary bike that I had at home.  The only pain involved with that was boredom but that was rectified with Netflix, etc.  Eventually, I could walk without any issues (you will get there, too!)

So, yes!  Go to the Y and find something that suits you better!  Really, it is about finding something that YOU like.  And at the Y, you aren't stuck with just one thing....you can rotated between swimming, weights, etc etc.

Zombies Run! (which is a smartphone app) really motivates me to walk and run.  I love listening to the stories, and I only let myself use the app when I'm walking or running.
