Daily Protein

Getting my daily protein in has been my biggest problem, as of today my NUT said I should be at 60g protein a day (next week it goes up to 70). I was drinking a Premier Protein drink in the morning then trying a gag 1 down in the evening (the evening 1 didn't work). Monday my doctor told me to try splitting it up, so now I'm drinking 1/2 of a premier protein (5 1/2oz) 3 times a day giving me 45g. And starting today I can add protein bars, I found 1 at Walmart called Pure Protein that is allowed (200 cal or less, less then 10g sugar and more then 10g of protein) that will add another 20g of protein putting me at 65. Now I feel like I'm getting somewhere with the protein.

When I was early out I added unflavored protein to sugar free pudding for a nice evening treat.  I also added it to my creamed soups. I had trouble finding a protein bar I liked with low carbs.  I found the protein bars too hard to eat because they were "dry".  I hope they work for you.

Cottage cheese and greek yogurt are great sources of protein and calcium.

Good luck.

Dang thing cut off most of my reply. If I stay under 200 cal, 10 sugars and more then 10 protein that I didn't have to worry about carbs.

I am having trouble eating a whole protein bar. I  have been splitting them and they are still very filling.

I'm pretty sure I'll have to break it up to at least 2 snacks.

Protein bars are overblown candy bars, too many calories & not enough protein, best to eat in a pinch, or as a treat. When you get to dense protein those bars won't look that appealing at all!

Today was the first day I could have an egg (it was so good), I can't wait till I can have CHICKEN. Right now the bars are helping me fill the daily protein that my NUT say I need. I had half of a peanut butter bar and I wasn't to bad, I'm going to try eating the other half later for a snack, but it sure doesn't fill the meat void.

Protein bars aren't really the best - for a lot of people they're no better than candy bars.  Are you able to get real food?  Like tuna fish, eggs, chicken, etc?  Yogurt, cottage cheese are good sources for softer protein.

Whipped cottage cheese is great this early out for protein! I don't mind it! And yes, greek yogurt. I'm only 11 days out and I'm allowed to have both right now. (As I'm struggling with acid reflux, I'm not being too adventurous right now. Hoping my doc addresses my acid reflux at my post-op appt. on Monday.)

I know what you mean about gagging down the protein drinks, though. The Isopure is killing me right now. Gag. But my doc office uses a brand of shakes called Celebrate and they are very good mixed with skim milk, soy milk, etc. They are 27 grams of protein total. Right now, I'm at 4 oz. of skim milk and just 1 scoop of the powder, so just half of the shake, but I'm getting 13.5 grams in that at least.

Best wishes to you!!
