Sense of smell heightened?,,,
Okay, so this sounds crazy but I swear my sense of smell has been heightened since my VSG surgery?! I'm just over a month post op, on the food side of things, the worst is bread - because it smells soooo good... ugh... but its more than that, I had some body repairs done to my truck and when I got it back I could hardly stand to be in it the paint smell was so strong, I mentioned it to my kids and they looked at me like I was crazy! they said they can barely smell it at all. At work, we were having a big team building meeting and we were using permanent markers on flip charts and the smell was so strong that I nearly left the room, I mentioned it to my co-workers and they all looked at me like I was crazy! Anyone else experience a new 'super sniffer' after surgery?
YES!!! I smell everything now! It's so crazy how that works. From foods, to perfumes, to smoke. All that smell just hits me like a ton of bricks. Thank god my boyfriend believes me. I just enjoy smelling his and my families food, and that keeps me satisfied, while I'm having yet again another protein drink. We were blessed with this unusual super power, so let's use it to our best ability! lol Good Luck with everything!
YES!!! This is happening to me as well. I can smell body odors and cigarette smoke well before anyone else...and it makes me sick.

I just had an RNY but it's the same with me!
I came home from the hospital and could smell sausage that my family ate for dinner the night before. Lol
It's one of the more rare side effects, but it happens. Some get super sensitive. It gradually diminishes during the first year.

Haha, yes, I posted this same thing a few weeks after my surgery in July. I believe it's hormonally related. My super sense of smell gradually diminished staring in August and I was back to normal within 6 weeks, I would say.
