I had sleeve procedure on Monday.  Worried I am not getting all the water in.  Seems like there are not enough hours in the day.  I am on the Healthwise diet I bought from my dotor.  So drinking all that and then only 4 oz of water per hour ...I just don't see how you can get it all in.....?   Struggling with this...any comments or suggestions?

It is haRd to get in enough  at first.  I'm not sure what your diet plan is. At day 3 post op I was on pureed food and shakes. The shakes will count towards your liquid,  as will the broth in soup. Getting in liquid is the priority right now but remember you can get in in other ways thank sipping water.

check out my blog!

Thank you for your comment.  I so appreciate!  The Healthwise program consists of six liquid meals per day each having 15 grams of protein (soup, ice tea, hot chocolate, pudding etc., all mixed with 4 to 6 oz of water and are not counted toward your liquid intake). I will try again today....a new day....

I would think that your liquid meals should count towards your water intake.  Don't stress about it, just try an make sure you are drinking though so that you do not get dehydrated.  Welcome!

I don't know what the Healthwise diet is.  I assume you're counting those liquids toward your total intake requirement?

I was sipping ALL THE TIME, and still do.

I got sleeved on tuesday and it is tough to get liquids in for me too. I can only drink 1 to 2 ounces per hour so far. I set a timer on my phone to ring every 10 mins to take a teeny tiny sip. If i'm sipping protein, I try to wait 15 mins between sips.

I hope it will get easier soon. I'm actually hungry. Probably because I've eaten less than 500 calories all week. :/

good luck to you!

RNY on 07/03/14

I had similar problems and feelings right after my RNY.  I was so stressed about getting it all in I as a wreck!  It all got much better when I let go of expecting my newly teeny tiny stomach to accept 60g of protein, what feels like a hundred vitamins and 64oz of water a day.  It's just too small to get it all in!  I hate protein shakes so I don't drink them every day but when I do I'm now able to get the 60 grams in.  When I don't I average 35 grams.  This keeps increasing as I'm able to eat more and more food.  I also, after going to the Emergency Room a week after surgery to get an IV for dehydration, now average 36 oz of water a day.  All of these number keep going up and up and up the more my stomach heals.  I'm much gentler on myself.  My surgeon said all was well and my nutritionist and PCP are happy with my progress as well.  It's not ideal but everyone can see I'm getting there.  It's A LOT!!  The strange noises get quieter and less frequent too.  My stomach made the most ridiculous and loud gurgling noises after I drank water for over two weeks!  EVERYONE around could hear it.  It all gets better!  Be kind to yourself.  You will heal and it will all get easier.

I was on the Healthwise diet too. I just did the best I could every day.  It got easier and easier to get more water in. Your stomach is still healing (and will be for a while). Take it slow and steady.

Congratulations on getting your new sleeve!

I'm surprised you're drinking water. My plan wanted me to have protein drinks or Gatorade...there's no nutritional value in water. Gatorade will at least give you some carbs for energy. I agree that there isn't enough time in the day. After surgery, I was sleeping in more than usual, and it probably would have helped if I got up earlier in the morning so I could start sipping.

My plan doesn't allow for any liquid calories except for protein shakes.  So Gatorade is definitely not an option!
