"The Last Pound" And Other Head-Games...
So… I’m 1 pound from goal and it’s messing with my brain.
I’m ecstatic, don’t get me wrong. My original “goal” weight has always been a “normal” BMI. For my height, 174 lbs puts me there… But right now, I weigh 175. And it’s ******g me off a bit. I’ve been chugging water and focusing on my protein and the scale is only teetering by a few ounces at a time.
Who’d have ever thought that I’d be at the lowest weight that I’ve seen in about 10 years and I’d be pissy about it? It’s such a head-trip.
In other news, it is utterly shocking to take a look back at the last year and see how much I’ve changed, both physically and mentally.
The physical: My hips don’t hurt any more (most days), I can take a set of stairs at a jog without feeling like I need EMS, my feet don’t hurt, I don’t have crazy sugar drops (most days), and I just generally feel my age again instead of 10 years older.
The mental: I’m confident again, and I was told as much today when I was offered a pretty cool new job. (I’ll be training to be the Assistant Manager of an Art Gallery/Restoration business in the trendy/hipster part of town) The boss said that she and the manager noticed my posture during my interview and that it had really made an impact on them… I’ve decided to finish another Master’s degree – something that I don’t think I would have considered a year ago… I enjoy clothes again... I ventured into online dating a few months ago and now I HAVE A (wonderful) BOYFRIEND who tells me that I make HIM nervous!
I want to make plans again. I want to LIVE my life instead of being a passive passenger who just waits for things to happen. I’ve found my long-lost inner go-getter and have welcomed her back with open arms!
If you are new to this journey… Take a moment to take stock of where you are in your life. Are you happy? If so, GREAT! If not, do you want changes? Do you feel like you’re sitting by and jealously watching other people live full lives? YOU CAN HAVE A FULL LIFE TOO. Once we don’t have to obsess over our bodies any more, there is so much room for other things to claim our focus! Grad school, relationships, jobs, travel, etc. The only thing stopping you is you... Let me say that again: The only thing stopping you is YOU.
Get your mind out of the cycle of obsessing over your body. Instead, establish your post op lifestyle as something that is routine and then go out there and LIVE.

Chrissy,
Such great advise! I can only hope to be where you are a year from now. Congrats on all your accomplishments this past year including the job offer and then new man in your life! I can understand the head trip of one pound but you really shouldn't focus on that with all these positives you have. Great job!
Congrats on your weight loss! Don't stress over that last pound, 1 good bm & you're there! LOL

1 pound? That's a rounding error. 0.57 percent over. I'd declare victory, and no one would argue.
You've done fantastic, and can honestly declare victory in every aspect of your life. How frikking great is that?
