Loose skin question
I know questions that I'm asking must have been asked a thousand times on this forum, but I am not seeing a search to search for them so I do appologize for asking again.
I'm wondering what you did to rid yourself of excess skin that occurs when you have a rapid weight loss. I said this in an earlier post, but again, my wife and I are working on getting approved for the VSG and I have found answers to many of my questions by reading, but always have more than I can find.
Is there some way to avoid much of the "loose skin syndrome" (my new term) or will looking into surgery for removal about the only option we will be able to look into? Anyone know if insurance will cover loose skin removal?
Plastic surgery is really the only option. Your skin will continue to shrink back for up to 24 months or so post-goal, but if you're going to have it, you're going to have it.
It depends on the insurance company. Call yours and ask!

You'll have excess skin from weight loss, whether it's rapid or slow, as a result of surgery or not. Your body has grown skin to cover the fat. As the fat goes, the skin doesn't go with it. How much you'll have depends on genetics, age, how much you weighed, and how long you were overweight. And you won't know whether it'll bother you until it's there!
Working out will not make skin go away. But developing muscles will give the skin a nice foundation to drape over, so it'll look better.
My insurance paid for the LBL, mastopexy and curoplasty (thighs) and would have paid for arms had we included that in the request. The plastic surgeon wrote a letter/medical report outlining the rash issues and the psychological impact of loose skin post WLS and my insurance approved. I agree with what everyone else said about the loose skin issue. You don't know what it will look like and if its going to bother you until you get there.
