Time in hospital?

My wife and I are both working on getting the VSG (well, we believe the VSG, still researching against the RNY) and one of the wonders we have is the hospital stay.

How long is the average stay in the hospital for VSG (does anyone know about the RNY as well)?

One night - about a 24 hour stay.  Surgery was in the morning and I was discharged the next morning.

I stayed 36 hours.  I didn't have any complications, no nausea or vomiting.

My husband stayed 3 days.  He had extreme nausea and dizziness and as a result, could not drink anything.  So they kept him a couple extra days.

I'm thinking this is a YMMV situation.

My surgeon puts his patients in 23 hour observation. Unfortunately, I spent 10 hours in recovery room so I started out behind the 8 ball. Then I had a hard time keeping my oxygen up for about 2 days. Then I had an allergic reactions to two different drugs. Lucky me. I stayed 4 nights, 5 days.  But the good thing was, I was well on my way with passing stools and drinking fluids, and I was almost off pain meds by the time I left the hospital.
