How to detect full??

Hi all. 6 days out from vsg. Is it normal for capacity to change from day to day-and,also, how much time should I wait between bites to detect full?

Yesterday I got in 70+ounces of liquid and 2 small meals. One meal was Greek yogurt. I measured 1/4 cup, used a baby spoon, and was able to eat it all without trouble. Today was a different story. I have felt full all day. When I drink, I feel like I have to burp to make room. I tried yogurt after cutting off fluids for 30 min. I took 3 bites and instantly felt the burp feeling, then mouth watering, then throwing up. I think maybe I went off of how much I could eat yesterday and wasn't listening to signs?

i don't know. I feel like a baby learning to eat. What is the feeling to watch for to know I'm done? Is restriction that feeling of fullness like I have to burp?

You won't feel restriction (true "fullness"****il you are eating dense solids. Early on, the "need to burp" feeling for me signaled OVER-fullness. It meant that something was trying to come back up. Stick to your plan of how much you are supposed to take in. Right now you can't trust your sleeve to send the right signals because it just won't. You can save yourself from the foamies (the mouth watering and vomiting that you seem to have experienced already) by sticking to plan.

Eek. Thanks. Is it normal to be able to eat 1/4 cup one time and only 3 bites the next time?

If you ate those 3 bites too fast, yes.

You should rely on measuring/weighing your meals for the first few months at least, because you won't be able to tell if you're full until your swelling goes down, the stomach and its nerves heal.  Everyone has different signs of fullness - for me it's hiccups.  Some burp, some get runny noses...

As suggested, you may have eaten those 3 bites a little too fast today.

Sillymilly is right on.  Always measure.  It took two months ( I wasn't doing solids yet.) before the nerves started healing and I could "feel"  At 6 days I was still doing fluids only.  Good luck, sip, walk and Measure.

I had the same thing. Sometimes 1 bite sometimes 3-4. One thing the dietician told us is that the first bite sets the tone for the entire meal. So make sure the first bite is well lubricated, chewed well, and a good 60-90 seconds before the next bite

That's a great tip Kathy! I never thought about that.

If there's one thing I've learned from reading all of these posts for over a year is that each one of us is different.  I sneeze when I'm over full...usually brought on by eating too fast.  I still weigh and measure everything if I can, and I still eat very slowly.  If I'm wondering to myself if I've had enough, I have and I stop right then.  You'll have to feel your way along.  Don't feel like you need to rush into eating what you're "allowed" to eat at any point.  When I got to solids, it made me miserable and I backed off most of my meals and went back to shakes, then slowly added more solids in over the next few weeks.  I was still on clear liquids a week after surgery, then another week of full liquids.  I couldn't start eating yogurt for 3 weeks, and I still had to take it slow.

Thanks. I'm on full liquids and yogurt is ok at that stage-but maybe not according to this. I think I will try with meals of broth and jello for awhile.
