Joined the Century Club today!
I officially crossed the "100 lbs lost" threshold today! I started my pre-op diet on 5/6/13 weighing 280.4. Today I weighed in at 179.3, for a total loss of 101.1!
I've stuck to 600-800 calories and under 50 carbs (usually much lower, unless I have a Quest bar) pretty well since surgery. My protein goal was 70 grams for a long time, but I bumped it up to 80 a couple months ago. I don't eat anything too fancy. Lots of chicken, fish and shrimp, plus a daily protein shake first thing in the morning. The only "recipe" I've made lately is crack slaw (delicious, BTW, with ground turkey). I had a couple of bad eating days in December and realized I can eat a lot of the foods that I shouldn't eat. There were a couple high calorie days around the holidays. It was a good reminder that I cannot get complacent. I must eat protein first.
Anyway, I started water exercise a month after surgery, then in September I started working with a personal trainer. That changed my life in many ways. I discovered that I love to exercise and I want to be an athletic, fit person.
This past month has been a challenge. I had surgery on my left foot and leg on 12/6. I wasn't very hungry after that surgery and dropped quite a bit of weight in my seventh month. I've had some complications in that foot and been quite frustrated about it because it's not healing as quickly as it should.
I had surgery on my right foot and leg on 12/27 despite the fact that I didn't exactly feel ready (insurance reasons - had to get it done in 2013 because I have a high deductible). My right foot and leg are healing normally, thank goodness, but my appetite has been out of control. And now I am taking meds to heal my left foot, including a dose of prednisone I just started. So I am really struggling to stay within the parameters I know I need to stay in for success.
I miss the gym terribly. I can't believe it's been a month since I've been there. I can't wait to go back, but it's so hard to imagine right now since it's a challenge just to walk. But I will get there; I have faith. I'm still losing weight, and I'd really like to reach my goal weight by my one year surgery anniversary. I also want to run a 5K in May, the month of my surgery.
My mind is not caught up to my weight loss. When I look in the mirror or at pictures, it is hard to believe that I "only" have 49 lbs left to lose. I don't see a person who has lost over 100 lbs. I actually am having a hard time wrapping my mind around that number.
That got a little wordy, but I wanted to give a brief summary of how things have gone since my surgery and where I am at today. THANK YOU for all of the support, inspiration and knowledge I have gotten here on this board. I can't wait to see where life takes me. I have so much hope for the future, and every single day I am thankful that I had the surgery.
I'll quote the doctor that saw me at my 6-month checkup this week:
"Get ya some!"
Congratulations on your success so far. You are going to make goal in spite of the fact your foot isn't healing right...just stay the course. You got this!
