I was sleeping and woke up, sat up quickly (no small feat) and could feel burning right in the middlw of my chest...is this heartburn/acid? They didn't give me an PPI at the hospital, but I have a prescription here I just took....along with sucking on 2 tums. Will it go away? I'm also due for a pain pill, but not sure I should take it... any advice?

Sounds like heartburn to me.  Try not to lie flat and get a PPI like protonix as soon as possible.

ppi take a day or 2 to start working the tums might help , but you might want to call your doctor , there are meds you can take to line your somach and protect it till the ppi starts working

I'm pre op, but i get acid that wakes me up from sleep. Sometimes it does as a burning in my chest.Sometimes I just wake up with a mouth full of acid. Hopefully your doctor can help and it goes away soon!

Agree with what everyone else said and will add that you want to finish eating at least 3 hours before going to bed.  You can also prop up the head of your bed, it helps with the reflux.

Have had this happen too - sucks :-(

Called my doctor at 3 am and was sure I'd get sent back to the hospital...LOL. They said my nerve block was likely wearing off, so the pain meds weren't helping as much to mask the gas pains....advised to walk & sip & walk & sip :)

Feeling much better today - thanks for the middle of the night advice :)
