I posted this on the main forum but wanted to cover my bases a bit more here.

Looking for some locals from around the Vegas area to get some ideas on sightseeing. We will be there the week of October 7-11. I will be celebrating my 1 year surgiversary and don't want to spend the entire time in the casinos.  Saw some video on the Virgin River Gorge that looks like a nice drive. Am planning on heading out to Mesquite anyway. We will have a car so travel is not a problem. If you have any must see's please let me know. I really want to celebrate this 1 year with everything I can do. Thanks. Bob

Don't forget about tripadvisor.com too.  Although any responses here would be optimal of course.

No advice Bob - but have the most wonderful time of your life. You and your wife are so lucky to be able to do this trip together. This surgery is amazing and you my friend are truly amazing at what you have done with your VSG tool. I am so happy for you. Celebrate my friend and then tell us all the wonderful places you went and things you did and saw. Again Happy Surgiversary coming up and Congrats!!!!  Lorna

You are such an inspiration to me - Thank you!

Thanks Lorna. You don't have any idea how much support you have given me on MFP. It seems if you can get a couple committed friends on there that comment on your diary how much it really helps and for that I truly Thank You. Bob

Right back at you buddy!  It truly makes the world of difference to know someone else is fighting the good fight and helping and encouraging us along. Thank you for always being there for me to. Lorna

I am not a drinker or gambler..but love Las Vegas...been there 4 times! Plan to spend at least 1 full day on the strip checking out all the major hotels. The grounds are breathtaking...and there are so many free things to see in Vegas...just google free things to see in Vegas. Don't miss the dancing water show (go at night) at Bellagio. Shows are plentiful..I have seen Blue man Group, Cris Angel, David Copperfield, and some hypnotist.

In the Mirage there is a peaceful Siegfried &Roy animal sanctuary. Luxor has a cool aquarium.

Day trips to lake mead and Hoover dam are a must. Also, last trip we went out to the Grand Canyon, west rim. It was amazing! Let me knows if you have any ???

Have fun

How long a drive was it to the whetstone rim? My nights will be at a card table or video poker machine but the days will be in a car sightseeing somewhere. Well I won't be hitting any strip clubs with the wife along. indecision

I lived there briefly. One thing that was very cool was the red rock national park. You can drive through. I don't believe it is far from the city. Look it up.

We took and all day (like 10-12 hr.) bus tour, so we had many stops along the way.
