Heartburn and Nausea @ 5 weeks

Hello, Lovelies. I have a follow up appointment on Thursday, but I figure I can get much faster answer from you wonderful folks :)

I am 5 weeks out (and 40 pounds down! Woohoo!) and am having some pretty wicked heartburn. My plan calls for Pepcid complete 2x daily until 6 weeks when I am supposed to switch to Calcium Carbonate. However, I have been having breakthrough heartburn for over a week now. Along with this fun new development, I get pretty nauseous when I eat. I've been cleared for "regular" food for about 10 days now, but am sticking with softer foods because they still seem to go down easier. I figure, why push myself? I eat a lot of shrimp, crab, sliced deli meat and some chicken (when it's cooked just right). I had to back WAY off of protein shakes because I was getting wicked... um, tummy trouble. I've been supplementing with Isopure, but still struggling with my protein numbers. I feel like I'm doing pretty ok with my plan if it weren't for the nausea. It's strange too because it hits me in waves. It's like I take a bite of food; chew, chew, chew; swallow then, NAUSEA... then a few seconds later, it passes. Rinse. Repeat.  I'm not overeating (I've got pretty great restriction) and I'm not drinking while I eat (OK, I may have a SIP to wet my mouth). So what gives?

Has anyone else had trouble with the nausea AND heartburn? I know a lot of VSGers talk about reflux issues, which doesn't surprise me considering our new anatomy, but I'm wondering if the nausea is related. I never got heartburn before surgery, so this is foreign to me!

Thanks, darlings!

Do you have any idea what you may be eating or drinking that may trigger your heartburn? I know coffee will cause heartburn for me, so if I am going to drink it I take my med before I have it.

It feels like ANYTHING causes it. I'll try to be more aware tonight and tomorrow before I go in complaining about it at my appt Thursday!

Yes, I had and currently still have severe nausea and heartburn (and gastritis).  I am 5 months out.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry you're suffering too! What do you take for either problem?

Ha! You name it, I was on the MAX dose.  I also had undiagnosed H Pylori, so I was on massive rounds of antibiotics.  I was on the MAX dose of Nexium, Randadine, Prilosec...tried other ones, too.  For nausea, the Zofran, but it did not help at all.  I was sick as a DOG with nausea and vomiting, throwing up 4 or more times a day at one point.  I was miserable, and now I am a little less miserable, but still I have not had a 'normal' Sleeve experience at all.  It has been pure Hell.  Now I actually have clinical Mono (nothing to do with the Sleeve, I don't think!), and I am more miserable, and exhausted non-stop blush

Oh no! I had Mono this past winter. It. Is. Awful! Be prepared to be down with it for at least 2 weeks and have no energy for another month! Make sure you're getting tons if vitamin c!

feel better!!!

Please do complain to your doctor Thursday. I was just curious if one thing made it worse than something else. I hope your doctor can discover the cause of your discomfort and do something to make you more comfortable.

Honestly I haven't noticed if one food is worse than another. I wish I could find a trigger food and just avoid it!!
