Homemade beef jerky! Hubby makes it and OMG yummy.
I still like cake though. Thus, we don't keep it in the house very often, we do occasionally (like yesterday, my daughter and I made cake balls at a class - add that to stress and yeah... LOL)

It's pretty easy. We use london broil - have the butcher cut it for jerky, they'll know to cut it thin and against the grain.
Then marinate it overnight with liquid smoke, soy, hot sauce, garlic powder, onion powder - whatever you want! We sometimes use the mojita crystal light powder when we want something different.
Then, toss it in the food dehydrator. We do mushrooms and other veggies and fruit too.

I made a test run of a double fudge Coca Cola cake for a dog club meeting this weekend. Not generally a cake person, but I did have a taste from Ron's slab o'cake to see if it needed tweaking. I'm making two more and will alter just a tad to make it a tad moister and a bit more chocolaty. And I have to say, this is some damn tasty cake! I'm dividing it up between a few neighbors in the morning. I don't want to be in the house alone with it tomorrow! LOL!
LOL, yeah, luckily I have an almost-13-year-old boy and lots of his friends. I just invite them over and leave the cake on the table. It disappears. Magic!
Cake is definitely my downfall. I know I have to allow myself it sometimes or I will binge on it (majorly, not just the four cake balls I ate yesterday!). It's become pretty natural to enjoy it and then make sure it leaves quickly.
You're smart. Me alone with cake is DANGEROUS.

But I totally hear you.... A protein and veg meal is so satisfying that I don't miss the starch. Not gonna lie.... It did take a while to make that a new normal.... But it's so obvious that it was just a mental thing.
Now you got me thinking zucchini and mushrooms !

I am not going to lie - there are some crap foods I still love: ice cream comes to mind and of course, my beloved home made ooey-gooey chocolate chip cookies. That said......
I am LOVING a daily chopped salad/slaw (cucumbers, radishes, red bell pepper, celery, carrots, with shredded cabbage). It is really working for my crunch need lately. That along with my protein does me just right. Don't need no stinking carbs!
Another favorite is 3 oz grilled chicken breast topped with a couple TBS of Ring of Fire original hot sauce and a TBS of shredded Mexican blend cheese. Nuke for a minute and YUM!!!!! A little fire on my tongue and satisfies me for hours.
