Feeling discouraged

I am not really sure what my jam is but today I am feeling very discouraged. I have only lost like 3lbs this past week and I am bummed. I started pureed/mushy foods last Wednesday and since then not much has happened. I have been having egg salad and chicken salad...only an ounce at a time so 2 oz a day of either chicken or eggs. I have been putting everything into MFP but i think the tbsp of mayo is killing me. I am on with my calories but it must be total fat or something thats killing me. I suppose I am just in a funk today. No mayo today, so hopefully tomorrow the scale will budge just a little.

Does anyone have the recommended numbers of total fat and total carbs per meal based off 400-600 calories per day?

Thanks,

Nikki

Everyone stalls, usually for the first time about where you are, so relax.  Are you exercising?  That really helps, and be sure to measure yourself too - when you stall you're still losing inches!

Do not worry about the fat. You need the fat. Fat helps you feel sated and keeps hunger at bay. I'm not saying go crazy with the mayo, but using a little bit in your TBS of chicken salad isn't going to kill you.

My general rule during weight loss was this: keep protein high and carbs as low as possible. I used the common formula that many here use: 600-800 calories per day, 80+ grams of protein per day, keep carbs at 40 or fewer per day.

Carbs can be the culprit for many people. Some people do just fine with carbs. You'll see both sides here on the VSG forum. Me, I did well with the low carb route. You will have to make up your own mind what is best for you.

Hey, I feel your pain.  My husband got me back when I said I "only" lost 2.5 pounds this week.. He said, hmmm, how much will that be in 52 week?  Also loved the question from someone on the board that said, how much did you lose during this week last year?  If you are anything like me, you hope that the weight would melt off in great big chunks each week.  However, I body will do what our body will do.  Please don't cut tiny bits of Mayo etc...it helps keep the tuna and chicken moist and you need that during this phase.  You are doing great!

Only 3 pounds? Go to the store and stick 3 pounds of butter in your pants and see if you get caught. That's not a small amount. You should never be discouraged if you are losing any weight. A pounds is a pound closer to goal. I don't personally think 1 tablespoon of mayo is going to ruin everything.

How is you fluid intake? I find when I don't get enough fluids, I don't lose...I even stalled for 6 days and didn't lose a lb...TOM, so I don't get too stressed out about it...it will happen.

Hi,

There is a predictable stall at 3 weeks as your body is adjusting to the surgery and weight loss.  I don't think the mayo is killing your diet if you limit it to a Tablespoon in a serving of salad.

Sometimes I think we VSG'ers set unrealistic expectations for ourselves in weight loss.  Actually, 3.5  pounds a week is 1/2 per day.  If you multiply that out its almost 15 pounds per month, and 90 pounds in 6 months.  That's a lot of weight and a lot of success, . Yet I often find myself frustrated when I am actually losing weight just as predicted.

So hang in there.  If you follow the plan, you are losing fat, no matter what the scale says.

Well I understand the funk completely I've been stalled for about 9 days now -trading the same 2 pounds back and forth. I've been making myself insane. And finally yesterday I agreed with a friend to toss out the scale for a while. It's just tormenting me, and I know I'm doing everything right. Don't get me wrong. I will be printing out my MFP stuff and showing it to the doctor at my 1 month check in next week but I just can't myself crazy anymore.

The funk must hit the road. I'm over it, or I wish I was. :) Keep the faith, work the plan, and the scale will catch up when it catches up.
