Mild Food Poisoning? Or Am I in Denial?

Of course, the doc's office is closed, and since I'm not "dying", I figured I would ask the collective wisdom here for their medical expertise!

I started having some strong stomach, lower GI "gurgling" yesterday after lunch, which was following by several episodes of, what we euphemistically refer to in the south as "the green apple splatters"!  It calmed down eventually, but this AM -- episodes almost every half an hour from 6 am until about 10 - then about every 2-3 hours.  Sipping my tea caused cramps and the runs about 5 minutes after drinking in the early AM -- but I didn't want to dehydrate!

So it eventually eased up some, and I continued to drink all day.  When I got home at 4, I thought I was doing well enough to try a little greek yogurt.  Immediate pain and cramping after a "baby spoon" sized bite.  So I stopped eating it (Duh!).

I have no other symptoms -- no fever, tiredness, etc.

So, my conclusion is that I have some mild food poisoning, and as long as I can drink, I should be fine.  I'll try some yogurt again in a few hours -- but overall, as long as I don't get worse, and the time between bouts of the "runs" increases, I should be fine.

Of course, it it gets worse, I'll go to the local doc-in-a box.

My question -- does this sound like a sensible approach to you all, or are these symptoms of something that I should take immediate action on, and I'm just in denial.  I am 7 months out, and typically have no problems with any food, etc.  And I ate chicken salad from the cafeteria salad bar yesterday about an hour or so before I started having the rumbling.

Your thoughts?

It might not even be food poisoning. It might just be a little virus going around.

I think I would do what you are doing.  It does sound like food poisoning to me or maybe a little virus.  Either way, just stay hydrated and keep an eye on things.  If you are still not feeling well by Monday, go see a doctor.  Of course if things get seriously worse, go to the Emergency room, but my guess is they would just send you home.  When you go back to eating, don't start with dairy.  Make a little broth and go with soup. No tomatoes, or lemons or anything acidic. You know I am not a doctor, this is just what I would do in your case.  Feel better soon. Hugs.

Thanks for the advice!  The chicken soup was definitely better received by my innards than the greek yogurt!

Sounds like stomach virus to me. I've had a couple since my vsg and honestly I don't worry about low carb when I have this. I just have a few saltines and progress to plain toast then on to egg. If you are sick, dairy might not be the best thing right now.

Thanks!  I made some soup, and just went to the pantry for a cracker, and that feeling of complete revulsion when I looked at the crackers -- so it looks like crackers may be tomorrow's big adventure!   Definitely not trying any dairy for a while!
