Chiropractor, yay or nay?

I have always been intrigued of the idea of going to a chiropractor. My friend works for one and swears that she feels so great when she gets adjusted.  He uses gentle massage and manipulation.  Well today I went and watched him work on her.  Everything looked very gentle, until the end when he jerked her neck. Freaked me out, anyone go?

I've been going to a chiro for years.  I am getting adjusted a little different since the surgery since I can't lay on my stomach yet, but it is great.  the neck is scary to see and honestly a little scary to feel, but after it is done, it feels GREAT!

give it a shot... if you can handle the surgery... the chiro is nothin! :D

I'm not where I want to be, but I am closer than I was yesterday!

I desperately want a chiro right now...but im doing physical therapy instead. I definitely have alignment issues because of weak muscles - so even when i used to go to the chiro all the time, hed put everything back where it was supposed to be, but because my muscles in my back/core were weak, it was a short lived benefit.

The jerking creeps me out and feels weird but you get used to it lol.

I agree...a short-lived benefit. I go to a Feldenkrais practitioner which has much more of a long-term benefit, but when my guy is out of town, in desperation I see the chiro. For me, my scoliosis and accompanying issues keep me rotating between the two of them, massage therapy, lots of stretching and PT exercises, and lots of strengthening work. Ugh.

It works if you work it; it sorta works if you sorta work it; and it doesn't work if you don't work it.

All depends on the chiropractor.  Some are great, some are awful.  Sounds like you friend's chiro is a good one if she likes him.

Depends on the practitioner.  I had one fantastic one and one who hurt me badly!  So now I'm gun shy. But I agree the benefits for me were short lived.

I have gone to one for years, and I swear by it.  I have a lot of spinal problems and it helps me a lot.

I LOVE my chiropractor! It's been a great way to destress and feel better physically. The popping and movements look and sound odd, but they feel sooooo good!!

NAY!! That neck jerk is what basically caused my non-stop excruciating headache that I've had since it happened 4 years and 4 months ago. I lost friends, the ability to work.. I have no life because of that stupid chiropractor. You won't believe how many times nurses in the hospital tell me I'm not the only horror story they've heard from chiropractor patients.

I see my chiro every 6 weeks and love him and how it makes me feel.  HOWEVER, I do not let him crack my neck because of how many people have experiences like the poster above me.  He manipulates the vertebrae in my neck with gentle pressure and sometimes a single pop.  No big craaaaaack though for me.
