Food for travel

I'm 7 weeks post op today and on a regular diet now.  I will be traveling Thursday and Friday and I'm concerned I might be in places where there aren't appropriate food choices (Thursday evening lecture / ****tail party).  What are some appropriate snacks I can keep in my purse to get me through.  Is it too soon for me to rely on protein bars?  Any other ideas?

I keep beef jerky, nuts and peanut butter in my purse :). Maybe you could take cheese sticks...or eat before you go to the lecture/****tail party.

If you are cleared for all food, a protein bar is fine. I don't use them for everyday, but I do use them for travel. Quest Bars are great and they have many flavors. You can get them online or buy them at the Vitamin Shoppe.
I also keep 1 oz baggies of beef jerky handy for snacks and always take those when I travel. Some people like almonds and cheese. My doc recommends keeping nuts and cheese for maintenance since they are so calorie dense.

I have to do a lot of business functions - I always have a protein bar at the ready (Quest seems pretty good, but hard to find.  Detour isn't bad on the carbs).

I have found that most ****tail parties will have something we can eat.  A chicken thing, cheese, coldcuts...

I travel in the US and to India a lot and always pack protein powder and protein bars so I can stay on or near plan.

This is my biggest challenge. I packed protein powder on my last trip in my carry on and oh wow, the grief they gave me at security lol. I found the best bet to be protein bars, as someone else mentioned, and you can get plenty of water most places.

I stick to the individual serving types for that. CVS has their own brand (not in Canada. Sigh) that comes in individual packets and tastes decent.
I bought a battery operated milk frother at Ikea a couple of weeks ago and it's GREAT for making shakes away from home - and it isn't much bigger than a toothbrush.

You know, I wondered about this. I'm going to FL in Nov and if I have surg before then I was curious about what I would be able to get on the plane until I could get my baggage back. I'm not sure I'll be cleared for real "food" by then and I worry that the shops in the airport won't have anything to hold me over.

I took packets of sugar free kool aid with me when I traveled at 4 weeks out from surgery. You can usually find muscle milk lite in the airports. I also took canned chicken vienna sausages. I could eat them all mashed up.

I keep "just the cheese" cheese snacks (different flavors) and soy nuts with me wherever I am just in case.
