OT-- Chapter 7 Bank.

Good evening,

Finding information out for a friend (prior to meeting with an attorney). Has anyone filed a chapter 7 bankrupty? I know typically you cant apply or get anything for 7 years but I have read that in cases it has been less time.  I wanted to know if anyone has actually filed and if so how many years did you have to wait to get back on track (i.e. buy a house, a car, etc.)  Thanks in advance.

We had a discharge in 1/2007. Got cars 6-8 months later (got 2 credit cards and missed no payments). House in 2010. It was stressful but it takes time to recover. Go slowly and keep debt to a minimum.
It will be on your credit for up to 10yrs and some employers frown upon it.

 Discharged in 2005 I was young (26) I got more apps in the mail for things after than before.  They say it hurts your credit but I really don't think it does.  They know your filing and you have no debt so they want you to run it up again.  Now I did learn my lesson at a young age and have no more credit cards but everyone is different.  My aunt has done it about  2-3x's don't know how and she just got a new car and is in the middle of doing it again, some people never learn lol

PS Im buying a house now and bought a NEW car in 2006! Hope that helps some!!

We were discharged in Aug of last year and I bought a car in Oct. I haven't tried to get any credit cards because were trying to learn to live within our means after the bankruptcy. It feels great to have no CC bills every month! Best of luck.
