I decided to try the support group offered by my surgeon but I'm sitting in the parking lo****ching the other people walk in and I haven't seen anyone even close to my age go in there. I'm 30 and everyone ive seen so far seems to be much older. I don't mean to hateful of prejudice I was just hoping to meet people in my area that are my age to go through this with. So should I stay or should I go?

I think you should go to the meeting. Maybe, at the next meeting, there will be more people in your age group. My group seems to fluctuate with all age levels. There is always information to be gleaned from others.

I think you should go, you never know who might arrive late - plus there might be someone there who ends up being like a big brother or like another grandparent. Good relationships happen regardless of the package :)

I feel the same way - I wonder if anyone will be close to my age and I'm twice your age, lol.  Guess we all woner what we can learn from others either younger or older than ourselves.  I'm still pre op and wondering if I'll be the oldest in my support group.

Let us know how it went.

Go -- you can learn from people of every age.  I'm the "grandma" in my group, but I've been accepted just fine.  Only been once, but the people couldn't have been nicer and more helpful.  Only one "stinker" and that's because she looks down her nose because she has a Lapband, but even she offers some good ideas.  I'm told the group changes monthly, too.  Some months all women, some months a few men, some months mostly men.  But we're ALL involved in WLS, so I'd advise you to give it a chance for a few meetings.  Besides that, maybe you can help someone else -- and that's a great thing we can do........pay it forward!
