I'm only five days out of surgery and since I came home from the hospital I have a splitting headache.  I have suffered from migraines my whole life but this isn't a migraine.  It's more of a pressure headache on one side only.  It seems to come after I've slept.  Any ideas why?  And more importantly, what can I take?  I used to take Excedrin, but the doc says no Excedrin.  I tried children's liquid Tylenol and it's so thick and sweet that it makes me nauseated.  Please help.  Thanks.

You may need more fluids. I get headaches when I haven't had enough.

As Katie mentioned, it could be dehydration.  It could also be your body's reaction to detoxing from carbs or caffiene.  If that's the cause, it will take a few days and then it should get better.  Maybe try the adult version of liquid tylenol.

Keep sipping!

Wondering if not  anything  to do with the surgery, but  sounds  more like you are  having  sinus issues.  I live in Michigan  and  when I  wake up  that  way,, usually  what it is.  Might  want to  check with doctor,  maybe  the medication is surgery messed  with you sinuses.   I know  sometimes little  things  will  do that.  My  daughter  had surgery on tooth  and  her face swelled  and  it  was  sinuses  and  the  breathing  tube  messes with.  Gave a steroid  and  few hours  later  went  away.  good luck

How about caffeine withdrawl? I had the most  god awful headaches imaginable for the first week, but I didn't give up caffeine before my surgery.

could also be a side effect of the anesthesia - if you know what kind you got, you could google side effects.  If that's it, it should go away with time.

I am six days out and wake up with a headache every morning. After I drink something, it goes away. I seem to be having them off and on through the day.

Sounds like dehydration possibly - how much are you drinking each day?
